Has any one got any of these types of cat flap? What are your thoughts and would you recommend?

No one?

TL:DR: yep, great, would recommend!

We had a zeromouse 1.0 and it was brilliant, stopped DCat bringing his very alive friends in and causing havoc in the middle of the night.

Sadly, it stopped working a couple of months ago. We too the offer to upgrade to the 2.0 and paid the difference rather than sending the 1.0 back to Germany for a replacement.

This was weeks ago and we’ve been waiting ever since.

But, in absolute fairness to the company, they are a small company who have made a brilliant product and I think they’ve found demand vastly outstripping supply. I finally had replies to my emails this week and apparently they are nearly caught up and we can expect the new unit soon. I can’t wait to have it back.

Yes, they are expensive, but cheaper than the damage done to my house and appliances by mice brought in by the cat.

Thank you for replying :)

Does the zero mouse just attach to a normal cat flap?

It attaches to a microchip flap. It works by intercepting the RFID mechanism.

Do check on their website that your cat flap is compatible.

I am still waiting for my new unit.

I had emails last week saying it would be dispatched “soon”. But not yet, apparently.

This is a bit (very!) belated but my BiL and SiL have an OnlyCat and absolutely swear by it. They’d also been through the choosing between the two phase. They said while OC is more expensive, it’s fully integrated rather than fitting it to an existing flap so is a lot slicker, and the team are UK based for ease of shipping etc and they were super responsive when they got in touch with questions. Apparently it’s now at the point of immediate shipping so no more long delays on delivery.

They’d considered the zero mouse but it looked a bit flimsy/3D printed from the images, so they weren’t convinced on the quality and the team didn’t respond very quickly when they got in touch with queries. They’d also seen a fair few people reporting issues with it not working when they were looking (a bit like HedgeWitch’s issue), but they may have been sorted now - no idea about the 2.0 though. Annoyingly, because it’s a German company, a lot of the groups/comments etc were in German so they had to do a lot of google translate in their research (tbh BiL loves researching stuff like this so he was in his element).

ILs had a minor issue with one of the settings on their OnlyCat and the team sorted it remotely almost immediately after a fb message they sent fairly late in the evening, so definitely can’t fault the customer service! They had a SureFlap before so it was a straight replacement and easy enough to fit. It’s another small start up team but they’re apparently really engaged - bit of a relief because they’d bought it not long after the crowdfunding phase and you just never know if it’s legit!

ILs are also part of a customer fb group where there’s a really supportive and active community that answers questions and shares cute/funny videos of their cats etc and tips for installation and settings, so that’s a bonus too. They’ve had theirs for a few months and haven’t looked back!

Did you buy one in the end @cookielove?

My new zero mouse unit arrived a few weeks ago.

The 2.0 is even better than the original.

Yesterday they sent a note with a cat toy to apologise for their slow responses (apparently this is fairly normal in Germany) and for delays in getting their new model out.

@HedgeWitchOfTheWest how is it going?

I need to do something and don't know which to go for. Zero mouse I maybe able to fit myself which appeals to me but I don't want to spend £200 and it's no good and I have to buy only cat for £500. I was hoping thee price would come down but it hasn't!

Every night I am on tender hooks when cat appears. I have just spent 30 on a cat flap Cover for night time, but it feels cruel!

The zeromouse is still working well for us.

its not 100% bombproof, but most of the time it does the trick, and on the occasions it doesn’t it keeps him out long enough to ensure his little friend is dead.

Also on the few occasions it fails, I can see on the app that he’s smuggled something in. There’s no wondering if there’s a mouse under the sofa.

I think he’s learned that it won’t let him in with mice, so he doesn’t try so much.

So yes, I’d recommend it still. The peace of mind is worth it.
