So many mice!

Hi, my one year old cat is bringing in mice once sometimes twice a night! Some alive, but injured and it’s really upsetting the kids and me!
6 mice in the last 5 days, he has a bell on his collar.

I have a cat flap which our small elderly dog uses regularly as he has kidney disease so goes to wee a lot, last night I put the litter tray and bed in the hall to keep him in.

i know cats hunt but maybe we have a mouse family as I’ve had cats before and never had so many mice brought home. Is there anything more I can do? Thanks

Cats catch mice. It’s what they do, it’s the reason we originally let them into our houses. Apart from keeping him permanently indoors (which seems harsh on the poor thing who’s only doing what he’s supposed to do) I can’t think of any way to stop a cat hunting mice. I wonder, given the large number of mice he’s catching, if there’s a mouse infestation problem in your neighbourhood. If so, he’s doing something of a public service here!

In intense hunting phases we shut ours out so he has to show an empty mouth at the door to be let in. It’s very seasonal and this is the season!

We also do mouth check, but it’s possibly easier as we have no cat flap, and a utility between the back door and kitchen. “Middle door” is frequently shouted here!

Cat is also always in overnight, but it was a very sad day when he presented me with a (dead) baby sparrow at lunchtime.

My cat does this. Some nights I managed to free them uninjured but often not. He has free Range of the house but I keep my bedroom door closed these days as I'm fed up of chasing mice around the bedroom at 3am when I start work at 6.

I have a hunter. There's a cat flap and he's not allowed past the kitchen until he's been checked for prey. (Both cats come in at teatime and aren't allowed out at night).

Mine aren’t allowed out at night - but did bring in two baby rats yesterday 😫

As PP have said it’s hunting season for them and they’re just doing what they’re bred to do.

Little Tennyson murdered two mice in next door's garden yesterday and brought them back so I'd know about his achievement.
