Litter tray teaching

Going to sound weird but is there a way to teach a cat it's ok to pee outdoors? I have 2. They used to pee (and poo) outside most of the time. Then We moved house to a busier road so kept them inside at first and now only let them out during daylight hours.
They've adapted great and seem very happy. The only thing that's a bit weird is they'll be outside and come in every time they need a wee! I actually like the fact they'll only poo in the box because who wants poo in the flowerbeds? Seems a bit unnecessary to come in for a wee though. Don't suppose there's any way to teach them that is there?

I don’t think so. I’ve had two cats and neither would go outside, both came in to use the tray. I guess they feel safer
