Our tortie has gone missing 😥

Our lovely 4 year old tortie went out yesterday at 6.30pm and hasn’t returned - we’ve done all the advised things, flyered all the neighbours, notified vets and microchip company, posts on social media and Pets Reunited. We did several sweeps of the area, one at 4am and then every few hours after but she appears to have vanished.

She is however a common visitor to our neighbours gardens and houses (!) and yesterday being a lovely Sunday Mother’s Day, we reckon she has got shut in to a garage or storage area.

worse still we are supposed to go away for 2 nights tomorrow… might just be me and the children and DH can continue to search.

We lost her sister to the road 18 months ago so particularly nervy. Roads are clear and no reported accidents.

A Hand hold would be appreciated and any stories of hope 😞

We had a black and white Felix type dcat... Missing 10 cold October nights... Shouted very late on at night... In the absolute quiet!!
He made his own at home with a back leg hanging snapped.... Grim. Vet said our shouting had encouraged him to find his way home.. He managed well on 3 legs for a long time. Then he was- I am certain - snatched and kept in by someone nearby in our new area.
Keep shouting op.
Rooting for your dcat to get home!

Fingers crossed for you. Are you going out in the quiet of night? I’d try around 11pm/ 11.30pm as well as early morning. It’ll be quiet and you’ll be able to hear her. Take dreamies packet to shake if that’s her thing

I agree when it's quiet and no birds making a racket. I had that problem when searching for Haribo.

Woke at 2am by a small insistent meow - she is back! A lot thinner but no obvious wounds or limping or cuts or bites. We are sitting on the floor of the kitchen looking at her with amazement as she has some tuna and biscuits (she is starving). We think she was shut in somewhere.

We’ve got the litter tray out and shut the cat flap but she’s anxiously trying to get out and meowing - obviously being trapped in has negative associations. But how long should we keep her indoors? Vet tomorrow morning for a checkup definitely.

This just made my heart happy.

i hope she is ok after a trip to the vets. ❤️

I've been following this thread and am absolutely delighted that your cat has returned.
I wouldn't keep her in for more than a couple of days. Hope the vet gives her a clean bill of health.
Can we get a photo now please?

zapeze · 15/04/2025 07:10

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcatsthank you for the virtual support and everyone’s advice. This place is a God-send. Here she is, a bit skinny, a bit wide eyed but very affectionate and clearly overjoyed to be home. Neighbour thinks she may have been shut in someone’s house during a 2 week holiday, which fits with the duration of her absence.

Our tortie has gone missing 😥

Thank you - she looks lovely.
Bet your kids are delighted too 😁

I am so happy for you. My tortie went missing for exactly 2 weeks in December 2023 , it was so wonderful when she came back through the cat flap, hungry and tired.

underhedges · 15/04/2025 08:59

Yay! Wonderful news. We kept our cat in for 10 days or so after she returned home but as I said above she'd been gone for 5 weeks. Give her lots of small meals and lots of cuddles.

Pianoaholic · 15/04/2025 09:04

She's gorgeous. I have kept checking your thread for updates and was so pleased to read that she'd returned!

Breadcat24 · 15/04/2025 09:49

So pleased she is back with you

lawpluslaw · 15/04/2025 10:05

Oh, I'm so happy for you all. What great news!

Words · 15/04/2025 10:06

Wonderful news OP. And what an absolute beauty she is Smile

CatChant · 15/04/2025 10:26

I am so glad for you. What a beauty she is and so bright-eyed despite her ordeal.

zapeze · 15/04/2025 10:48

Thanks all. The vet says she has lost a quarter of her body weight and has clearly been trapped somewhere with access to water as she is not dehydrated. She’s on a 2 week indoor curfew on vets orders, with little and often feeding. She’s currently made herself a den in the garage so I’ve put her litter, food etc in there and a warm blanket. I think it’s a bit overwhelming for her so glad we can keep her quiet and safe. So relieved.

Wow fantastic
. Maybe a GPS collar going forward? Or is she forever grounded??

KittenKaboodle · 15/04/2025 12:52

Oh OP, I’m so happy to read this! What a gorgeous girl - she has no idea of the stress she’s put you through.

zapeze · 15/04/2025 13:49

@Eggsboxedandmelting we are most definitely putting a tracker on her and introducing a sundown curfew once she is back to her healthy weight!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/04/2025 13:54

Oh lovely update glad she is home and the Vet has given her a check up.
Our old girl (also a tortie with white bib and paws) was missing during a horrendous storm . Turned out she went visiting NDN ( this was the days before microchips and activated cat doors) and was sitting in with their cat .

We saw her little face from their bedroom window but she only came home after their dogs came in.
Little toads aren't they ?

Deargodletitgo · 15/04/2025 16:36

Oh fantastic news!! So pleased she's back. I locked mine in for a couple of days, until I got a tracker on him. He survived on weetabix and toilet water, so had a dodgy tummy for a day or two, but like him, your little girl looks like the experience did no long term harm.

RareMaker · 15/04/2025 18:17

❤️❤️❤️❤️

Pudmyboy · 15/04/2025 21:36

Brilliant news!!! 😻 Hope she puts all her missing weight back on soon! Any further follow up with the vet? Or just if looks like it's needed?
Love a happy ending to these threads!

RumNotRun · 15/04/2025 22:01

I'm so glad she's back! I'm sure she'll be back to her old self very soon.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 15/04/2025 22:10

Wow that's great news!

zapeze · 16/04/2025 10:24

@Pudmyboyshe is sleeping a lot on her heated blanket and eating little and often. She’s accepted her litter tray too which is a relief! She spent this morning grooming my daughter who she thinks is her kitten.
