Stopping DCat massacring bees

Last year we spent a lot of dosh creating a wildlife-friendly garden. Now the flowers are out, DKitten is having a whale of a time chasing and eating the bees. He has a bell collar to help birds, but what can I do for the bees? He's eaten at least 5 this morning and I rescued another shell-shocked bumblebee from the doormat this morning. Help!

Is he called Renfield?

Breadcat24 · 29/03/2025 15:12

And he is absolutely beautiful

No, nothing so refined!

What a handsome cat!

One day he'll pick on a wasp and get stung, which will start to put him off.

One of mine caught wasps and bees regularly for a few weeks, hardly a day went past when he didn't have a swollen paw. Then he suddenly realised they were stingy things and stopped. I won't tell you what he moved on to...

Our DCat got stung a few times. That stopped her!

Now if he ate spiders that would be actually useful.

This is my favourite thread - beautiful kitten doing kitten things & big fat bumblebees 😁

I assume it was a turn of phrase when you mentioned mixing nectar but if not please don't give them anything other than sugar water :)

He’s stunning 😍 but no advice as my two are the runts of a barn kitten litter and now in good health (approx. £600 of vet bills later) when taking into account what they were born to do, I witnessed one of them losing a fight/hunt to a woodlouce the other day so the bees in my garden are under 0% threat 😂

Kitty needs to beeware

He's gorgeous, even if he is a murderer.

Dogs can be no better. I grew up with an Irish setter with a penchant for bees and wasps. She was visibly in pain but went back for more - she would even stand by a hebe bush and wait for her snack. A bit like macho blokes and naga chillis.

Yesterday this one caught and ate a spider, and killed a wasp. I watched him jump at the wasp, then play with it to death on the patio. He didn’t eat it but I can see him being stung in the very near future.

What a handsome lad! They seem to come into their own on a sunny day.

He brought one into the kitchen this afternoon for playtime before eating. Poor bee. Unfortunately he ate it before I could get a cup.

Our fella was in his cat tree which is at the kitchen window this afternoon, and a huge bumblebee was outside. I thought he was going to go through the window, even though the back door was actually open. Orange cats - not much brain but very charming!
