Nutracalm - how effective is it? Moving house.

Hello all
i have an eight year old rescue cat. We are moving shortly and I know that as soon as we begin to start to pack things up, he will become very stressed and anxious. My plan is to keep him in an empty spare room, with lots of familiar clothes/toys/litter tray etc whilst the movers pack everything, and as soon as have the keys to transport him to the new house in a small dog crate (he’s a bit of a chonky lad),

However, just wondered how effective Nutracalm might be in this situation? The assistant at the vets said I can buy this over the counter. I guess I’d like the big boy to be nice and snoozy and wake up in his new house!

Any help very much appreciated!

I used it and didn’t notice a difference at all. Zyklene works quite well for my cat though.

I agree with zylkene and also Feliway

Thank you @LaundryIsNotmyFriend @Toddlerteaplease . Is Zylkene also available over the counter? Good idea ref Feliway. I’ve still got the plug in from when Alan came home so can just get a refill. Also helpful at the new house.

Having googled (sorry, should’ve done this first), I see it is so will order some in. Glad I asked!

Zylkene is the only thing that works with my cat. It's very effective. Feliway does nothing for him.

Plumcorkyduff · 18/03/2025 23:51

Thank you very much @SallyWD . I also felt Feliway had limited success (Alan is very fond of weeing indoors where he shouldn’t and it didn’t help with this either) but I’m willing to give it another go in the hope it might help a little.

Zyklene is available OTC and is much cheaper than nutricalm. I also found Pet remedy more effective feliway. My cat also had gabapebtin for stress, which worked well.

Thank you @Toddlerteaplease . Will order some Zyklene and give the Pet Remedy plug in a try too. Fingers crossed for Alan that it helps! Also that the big ginger floof likes his new home and might consider not peeing everywhere Grin

Anything you buy off the counter is hit and miss. What your cat need is Gabapentin, ask your vet.

We had a big house move last year.
We have a very anxious, bitey cat.
Gabapentin worked like magic.

We kept him in the bathroom while the movers worked. He was chilled, unaffected by the noises and the effect lasted for a couple of hours I think?
You only need to use it once.
Highly recommended.

Thank you @chiffontalks . Hmmm. Sounds like I will need to ring the vet again. Appreciate you taking the time to reply. 😊

Try zyclene over a few days it doesn't work in one dose needs a few days remember cats will pick up on stress for days it's not just moving day
