Address change ... microchip company now charging

2 cats (plus one who has been AWOL for over a year . 😟)
We've just moved and I've come to update our records for all 3 and they now want to charge me. £15/ yr presumably per cat. It is identibase. I don't remember paying an annual fee before.....
Do they all charge nowadays?
Thanks x

mine do

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 08/03/2025 20:09

The Kennel Club's register, forgotten its name but CatOfHate is registered with them, charge too.

LammasEve · 08/03/2025 21:26

They've charged for address changes for years, I think it's just phone number changes that are free.

stormsandsunshine · 08/03/2025 22:12

If it is an address change, how can they charge an annual fee?

I get charging a one off fee for the change of details, but are you saying that they charge an annual fee indefinitely if you ever move house but not if you don’t?

Seems to be what the website is saying. I'll see if there is a phone number and try and speak to an actual human next week.

I thought they charged if you change your details - either phone number or address, but it was a one off charge to cover admin fees. It would be frightening if it was an annual fee.

stormsandsunshine · 08/03/2025 22:36

Surely it must be an error on the website as either they charge an annual fee or they don’t. OR possibly they have a type of membership where for £15 per year you can make unlimited changes (but otherwise you have to pay as a one off each time).

ThisHangryTiger · 08/03/2025 22:43

I'm sure when I looked to change my cats they charge you an annual fee. Can't remember how much.

newkettleandtoaster · 08/03/2025 22:57

Yes, I got an email reminding me to check address details were up to date,

We moved house a few years ago so I logged into try and change details....and it tried to charge me.

I thought it was a mistake at first so tried various different ways.

Eventually I just left it. My mobile number is the same, and that's what they would use.

allnewname · 09/03/2025 07:39

Yes that's what I will probably do, just make sure the contact numbers and emails are kept up to date. Thanks.

We’re with Petlog and have never paid for address changes but I think we possibly paid for some kind of one-off premium fee at the start that covers them.

Petlog is the Kennel Club's one that CatOfHate is with.

1984Winston · 10/03/2025 06:47

There's always been a charge (you can usually pay a one off premium fee and you can then change it as much as you want) microchipping month is in June and it's often free to do it then

sashh · 10/03/2025 06:57

OP They set the website up to make it look like you have to pay but you don't. £15 a year is identibase+

Sorry I have just checked, yes to update your details you have to sign up for one of their services.

I think I will need to move too, my address hasn't changed but my phone number has.

Currently this seems the cheapest at £2.99 to register

sashh · 10/03/2025 07:57

OK after going to various money saving sites Pet Scanner charge £2.99 to register and say you can

I have recently changed my address with Identibase for free - this is where a little knowledge of your rights is worth having.

Your postal address is "personal data" and therefore covered by the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) / Data Protection Act.

Article 16 of the UK GDPR gives you a "right to rectification" of inaccurate personal data, and Article 12(5) says that this must be done for free.

So I emailed their data protection officer ([email protected]) asking for them to rectify my now out of date address (quoting the above articles of the law), and they have done so without question.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/04/2025 21:55

Paddington was with them, I’m sure I didn’t pay a fee the first year. But the. Got an email saying it would be £36 for this year. No idea what for. He was rejoined and the chip changed to his new owner. So no idea why they contacted me.

Amicompletelyinsane · 11/04/2025 22:04

I changed address with identical and didn't get charged. They try to sell you this annual fee thing but I'm sure you can speak to them and just change your details
