Cat proofing small garden

I'm moving house next week and want to cat proof my garden asap so my cats can go outside safely.
I've seen various different products online but not sure what to go for.
Has anyone experience of cat proofing? I'm a bit concerned because my cats are very clever Siamese and I'm worried they will be able to get over fences.

My gardener has suggested something like this - do you think it would contain them??

I’ve ordered the purrrfect fence system it’s being installed on the 18th so I’ll let you know. It’s the same design as the one in your picture only it has a moving arm Mechanism as a secondary safety measure.

That one looks great - I would be very interested to hear how you get on!

A friend of mine has a cat enclosure built by a company called ProtectaPet, not cheap but its a very safe set up and they can custom design a set up for your garden

LilacpointMummy · 06/03/2025 13:49

I've seen ProtectaPet on Instagram - do you know if your friend's cat has ever escaped?

She has 23 of them (hence the outdoor enclosure) and not one of them have ever managed to get out of it

That's a lot of cats! And great to know 😺

I have outdoor cats but I know a few people that have built catios for theirs and they seem very happy with them! My cat would be out of the garden with the backwards mesh thing, she's like Lara Croft. I'm not sure I'd want to risk it with pure breed siamese.

Ps BEAUTIFUL kitties!

LilacpointMummy · 06/03/2025 22:04

Thanks @Tdcp I think they're gorgeous but I'm biased 😺

How did anyone's cat proofing go?
I went for the ProtectaPet system in the end and all good so far 🤞
They haven't even tried to climb the fence yet, but I'm sure as my two wee boys get older they'll give it a go!

@LilacpointMummy I’ve just found Protectapet whilst looking for a way of keeping our cats safe. How has your cat fencing been? Did you do your whole garden? Any tips before I measure up and start spending? Thanks

Overtheatlantic · 27/04/2025 02:15

Nothing to add except they are gorgeous!

It has been great! My boys are still small so haven't tried going up the fence yet but it gives me total peace of mind when they're out.
I did do my whole garden but it's tiny so wasn't too expensive.

My main tip would be check how many corner brackets you need, as their pack only includes 2.

If you need extra corner ones, make sure you also order the plastic bit that goes into the corner of the fence to screw the bracket to. I didn't realise this and it held everything up while I ordered the extra bit.

Meanwhile my older cat was pacing up and down the patio doors desperate to get out!

I enclosed a part of my garden just copying the brackets and angled wire system but for a fraction of the price and my cats never got out. I'm not very good at DIY so it didn't look pretty but it did work!

Gingerbreadmocha · 28/04/2025 14:52

@LilacpointMummy Thank you for the tips. I’m so glad it’s worked for you.

We are in the same situation with our two boys annoyed they can’t go out anymore but having just lost their brother on a quiet country lane we need to keep them safe. Thanks for the update and they are gorgeous!
