Dog attack. Sad outcome

Just need to get it out. We have friends visiting with their dogs. As we were heading out, they went after one of my cats. One dog injured and my beautiful moggy fatally injured.

We’re all reeling. It was a tragic accident as a result of a moments distraction/bad decision. We were about to put the dogs in the cars cars, the driveway gate was shut so they were off lead. The cat ran, the working dogs chased.

It happened so so quickly and we got her to the vet within a short time but once she’d had painkillers, it was clear she was dying, confirmed by an x-ray. DDs and I were able to say goodbye, DSs couldn’t get there in time with DH so helped bury her. Just so sad.

I'm do sorry for you all to read this. I'm sure your friends are devastated-what a tragic accident. Wee they aware of their own dogs breeding and temperament?
A very similar scenario happened to me over a decade ago. My little cat, who never crossed my (fairly quiet road), for some reason ran when the energy was high. as we were all leaving the house in the dark. The running triggered a chase by my dogs and the cat ran into the road and was hit by a taxi. She actually survived the incident, but how, I'll never know and I had it playing over in my brain for years afterwards.
Mine were pugs, not known for their prey drive, and were never bothered by any cat as a rule.
Both my later dogs (Newfoundland and Lab pup) have prey drive, but I doubt would actually do anything to a cat if they got near one. I'm guessing the energy was anything but calm when you were all leaving the house and this can be fatal in so many scenarios. Wishing you healing thoughts. X

This is so sad. I’m so sorry for you, your DC, and your poor cat.

I'm so sorry but a bit angry. They should have controlled their dogs better if Prey conditioned. Your poor cat obviously ran but I'm not trying to say you were at fault. My condolences.
