Hi does anyone know why cats scratch around objects (as if they are using the litter tray)? . Normally happen on my bed or sofa but no weeing or spraying. Heres my siamese doing it around my finished yogurt bowl he has no interest in eating.

If they do it around food they don’t want to eat it is probably their instinct to bury unwanted food (in case it attracts other predators). One of my cats always does that by her food bowl
when she has had enough, if there is any food left.

This makes sense, thank you!

My cat does this around his food bowl when he’s been to the litter tray. No idea why he does it.

Burying it as if it was poo! Tidy cat!

Scratching is often a form of scent-marking.
