Velcro cat after bonded cat died.

Hi all.

I posted in winter 2023 about finding our cat after she was missing for 10 years, worried about how that would impact the cat i still had, who had been alone the 10 years just with a house rabbit companion. It turned out great, the cats rebonded very quickly and became inseperable. However, after a short illness at christmas time, the cat that didnt go missing died. So now we just have the cat that was returned to us.

She now will not leave me alone, every second im in the house she is on me, as close to my face as possible, pawing at my face when shes awake, on my shoulder under my chin to sleep. I love her, obviously, but my word do i need some space some times! After she went missing for so long, she is now totally indoors. So every second i am home, she is with me. There are others in the house, my older teenagers, but she wont go with them, it has to be me. I think this is likely to be the first time she has been an only cat, we dont know the history of the 10 years, just that when she was found she was with an elderly lady who had numerous cats she gave up to a charity as she couldnt care for them.

Im not sure i want to go down the route of getting another cat, loosing the one we had for so long at christmas was devasting, im not sure im ready for that, but does anyone have any advice on how to stop a velcro cat? I dont mind her sitting with me sometimes, but its constant, on my face, following me around, day and night. If i shut her out the room while i sleep she screeches at the door and is destroying the carpet!

We had a bonded pair. After his sister died, our boy cat (who previously was quite stand offish) yowled and wailed and became a cling-on for nearly a year. He did eventually settle down but it took a while because they were so close.

They grieve as much as humans. No suggestions, I think it'll take time.

My cats a bit like that, follows me around, wants to sit on my lap, and preferably with his head on my chest. I put a cushion on my lap so there's no room for him. I love him but I also love my own space.
