Ok so DD, has just admitted to me she shut our cat in the bedroom this morning when we left. I don’t know why she did this; she knows she needs her litter tray etc. she did eat a lot this morning. We’ve had work and school so haven’t been back yet. I’m so stressed now, she won’t have obviously had her little tray with her. I’m guessing she’ll have had an accident in there. Will this stop her using the litter tray if she has?We are heading back now, she’s been in there a good few hours😫

So we are talking maybe 8hrs?

Our cat was shut in our bedroom by accident once. She urinated on the duvet (I think the fact that she could scrape it around a bit with her paws made her think it was a giant litter tray), and of course, she used it several more times after that (despite me washing the duvet each time to remove any residual smell).

We had to be scrupulous about keeping her out of the bedroom, and the door shut, for several months. That was enough to break the habit, and she's always used her litter tray since then.

My parents accidentally locked our cat in the garage overnight and she never made any mess. Went running out to the garden as soon as they opened the door though.

She may not have been, cats can hold it a fair while if they have to.

But your DD really needs to be spoken to about how she can't do this again.

Our last cat absolutely detested using the litter tray, and would happily go more than eight hours overnight until she could get out in the garden. (We had three litter trays, she just really, really did not like toileting indoors!)
