Cat toy recommendation

I have a house cat ( to aggressive to be allowed out ) so I want to buy him a new toy .
He has ping-pong balls , mice, lasers and light up balls .
And a large well used scratching post
He isn't that fussed about catnip.

So what toys have you bought your feline overlord that meets with their approval ?

Thank you for all of your ideas , I am going to get him a banana and one of the chase a balls in a tube type games .
I will let you know how he gets on with them.

@BabyCatMama , I appreciate your thoughts on my letting him out , I thought the same as you.
However unlike most cat fights where its usually handbags at dawn and a bit of yelling he full on attacks with absolutely no warning He has drawn blood on a few of the neighbours cats and cost me £100s in their vet bills.
I know it's my cat doing the harm I have seen him do it.

Pipe cleaners. Wind them around your finger to make a coiled spring shape first. They fling around easily and have a pleasing jiggle on landing.

If he’s not interested in catnip, have you tried valerian or silvervine toys?

My girl’s current favourite is when I move one of her wand toys around under one of her blankets. She’ll sit & watch very closely, then at some point she’ll pounce & usually end up wrestling the blanket.

One of mine loves catnip dental stalks - they look like twigs. She just lies and chews them for ages, the big hairy weirdo.

AnnaMagnani · 25/01/2025 09:08

Mine is also on house arrest due to violence. At home he isn't even top cat.

At first he had zero interest in toys but it has built over time. Key is to keep rotating them.

Laser pointer.

About £2 from Pets at Home.

AnnaMagnani · 25/01/2025 09:23

Laser pointer depends on the cat. It's ultimately a disappointing toy for many cats as they don't get the experience of the kill.

Plus some, like my idiots, are scared of them.

Forgot the mandatory mention of Jackson Galaxy and his how to play with your cat videos.

I thought my cat didn't play, turned out I was just crap at playing with him.

ScottBakula · 25/01/2025 18:24

@EmpressaurusKitty , no I haven't tried them , thanks for the tip .

@AnnaMagnani it's horrible having a thug isn't it.
I agree with the laser idea , my cat loves them if I only use it about once a month for 10 mins after that he isn't interested. I think it's because he can't catch it he gets frustrated.
I had not heard of Jackson , I will have a look at his videos later.

I got him a banana which seems to be a hit but I am only going g to let him play with it for short periods of time so he doesn't get bored with it.

I'm so glad your floofball loves the banana too! What a happy cat!

Mine is currently running around with a bit of dried pasta. She likes mushrooms too. 😑😑

About six months ago there was a big load of Covid at my work, so we got some tests. Our boy wasn’t born in the pandemic so he was very intrigued with the whole testing situ, and stole the little plastic vial the liquid comes in. To his utter sadness he managed to batter it under the cooker, and then cried and cried until DP retrieved it. I binned it, but he still sometimes pokes a hopeful paw under there. He also very much enjoys a contact lens eyedrop vial.

I’d forgotten about this, but our previous girl sometimes used to steal my dental retainer off the bedside table and bat it about. I keep it in its case now so the orange menace can’t mess with my teeth.

ScottBakula · 26/01/2025 00:26

@Water41 my dog loved playing with the tough outer leaves of leeks . Why do we spend a fortune on toys ? 🙄
The one 'toy' I forgot my menace loves is the side brushes off my robot vac . They need changing soon so I will save him the old ones to play with.
No doubt he will helicopter them under the ¼ inch gap under the sofa fairly quickly .

My parents' cat's favourite toy is my dad's hearing aids. She's absolutely spoilt rotten with a box full of toys but the aids are her favourite. I think they always like the things they're not meant to have best! (Dad now hides them in a box in the cupboard overnight!)

EmpressaurusKitty · 26/01/2025 07:46

In case it’s helpful, this morning I tried tapping the end of the wand along under the blanket - ears straight up & Kitty was fascinated.
