Scratching furniture

Hi brought our gorgeous 2yo rescue boy home today. He’s gorgeous. Currently hiding under the sideboard but purring if we touch him.

so having never had a cat before..was wondering how I could stop him scratching furniture. I’ve bought a scratching post but it doesn’t arrive until tomorrow.

In the meantime. will I wake up to find my sofa in bits??

Just as a temporary thing, have you got any double sided tape to put onto the sofa arms or wherever you feel? Cats don't like the sticky feeling on their paws so will avoid it

Also, try a feliway plug in, which can reduce stress related scratching and help him feel calmer as he settles in.
