Cat started inside

Hi all

Since she was allowed out as a young cat our little Siamese cat had done her business outside. Unfortunately over Christmas she was locked upstairs for a couple of days while we were away. Then there was snow and ice.

when she was locked in she used the downstairs toilet for wees ( no poos anywhere) which was fair enough but continued when we returned. It was really snowy and cold so I sort of understood but now the weather isn’t too bad she has continued to do this. If we close the toilet door she wees outside.

ive never actually caught her doing this and obviously can’t reprimand her after the fact. I just wondered if you have any tips to encourage her to go outside again ( she’s got a cat flap ) she’s 11 in May so not sure if it’s an age thing? I’d rather not have a litter tray agin unless it’s unavoidable !

Thanks in advance

Is she using the actual toilet or a little tray in the bathroom?
Is she not pooing at all?

I've always had a litter tray, even with outside cats who always go outside, just in case they get locked in or are feeling unwell. By not having anywhere to go when she was trapped she was probably quite distressed and she may be communicating her distress by continuing to wee inside. It may take a lot of care and reassurance to get her to go outside again. In the meantime, I think you really should have a litter tray available. It doesn't mean she will always use it from now on, but it might make her feel more secure to have somewhere to go inside if she needs to.

Has she got a UTI? My cat makes it very obvious to me when she has one! She has a litter tray inside but will try and wee anywhere and makes sure I'm aware.
Or maybe time to get the hint and just get an inside litter tray.

Definitely worth a vet visit to check for infection/crystals.

My sister's cat was being bullied by a neighbours cat and started weeing inside. Litter box solved the problem.

Perhaps as she's getting older, she's more comfortable inside.

She needs a litter tray.

Thanks, she is now going outside ( she wouldn’t at all when it is snowing) so I’m assuming she’s pooing out there but weeing in the floor of the downstairs toilet anyway. I will book a check up with the vet and get a litter tray. Thanks
