Cat on heat ...and male kitten. Help.

I adopted 3 cats. 2 kittens (1 M,1 F) and their mother. Kittens are now around 14-15 weeks.

The vet had advised neutering the male kitten in first week January. Check up tomorrow and I hope they will book him in later this week.

The vet had advised that the mum should not be neutered yet as she was recovering from the birth (gave up BF in end November). She is now on heat and showing her backside to whoever will look! Obviously they are all indoors still and no danger of slipping out.

However today I witnessed what looked like the male kitten positioning himself on his mum😕It was for a second but now I am terrified I have allowed them to inadvertently had incestuous relations - I do not want another litter!!!

I've isolated mum and daughter in the living room and banished the son to another room. The daughter kitten is not fussed but obviously mum is looking for her son and he is doing his young kitten meows🙄

Advice needed please. I am desperately trying to keep them apart until their ops.

The only thing you can do is keep them apart. Maybe a large dog crate for the male kitten in a separate room. It’s very difficult especially

When is mum going to be 'done'?

If she is pregnant then the vet can take care of that at the same time.

Kittens can be neutered or spayed when they weigh 2 lbs.

Keep mum and kittens apart until they can be seen to.

Close mum into a room if necessary.

If she's on heat then her body is ready to give birth again. By that argument she is recovered enough to be spayed now. Please contact the vet again. She might already be pregnant but the vet can sort this out at the same time.

Thank you for the replies. I have a vet appointment today for the male kitten. Hoping they can give him the chop later this week. I've read though that they can still mate for some time after that - is that really the case? Anyway the mum and sister will follow suit soon.

Isolation areas worked well yesterday. I have set up everything in the living room for the girls and they had a happy night. The male kitten is very soppy and friendly so is following me around the house happily. Supervised visitation at breakfast time to reassure them all that no-one's been rehomed.
