Flea dirt and eggs, no actual fleas

Boy cat is an only, hates all other cats and doesn't go near them, but does go outside.

In July we saw a couple of fleas on him. He has frontline plus every 4 weeks on his neck, so annoying. Continued with front line, had a good Hoover of all furniture, hot washed all bedding, used indoor flea spray.

Since then we've never seen a live flea on him or anywhere in the house. I give him good brushed and look through his fur.

But still 6 months on he has flea dirt in his fur, and white eggs. I assume they're dead, we keep using front line as usual, hot washing all blankets etc. We don't have carpets, only wood floors.

Why still lots of flea dirt and eggs after 6 months, but no actual fleas?! Is there anything else we can do? Has anyone else experienced this?

Are you sure it's flea dirt and eggs? Could it be just ordinary dirt from outside and dandruff? Did you do the water test on the dirt (put it on a bit of kitchen towel and then put water on it and it should run red if it's flea poo). Is he scratching?

Also, if he is still going out he might be being bitten and the fleas pooing but maybe they are being killed by the treatment? Some flea treatments prevent the eggs from hatching. It looks like Frontline has this. So the eggs that are on him might not develop.

Frontline stopped working years ago in our experience. We used to use Advantage (I think...been a while since we lost our puss cats). You need to go to your vets and get a better one than frontline and also may have to treat the house with Indorex.

In my experience the treatments didn't keep working for the full month. You should be able to tell if you get a proper flea comb and give him a thorough comb all over, paying lots of attention to the area around the ears. Fleas can get on cats in the garden, but they are probably not active outside at this time of year because it's too cold.

Frontline isn't effective anymore, you need a prescription treatment from the vet.
