Halitosis cat!

Hello - yet another Elton related request for advice!
He's doing really well at the moment - eating and drinking well but he's still very stinky. Having done an extensive sniff test it's not his body it's his breath. It's not decay as we got the vet to do another sniff test and he couldn't smell anything worrying - just what he described as catty! It's not helped by my over sensitive nose and Elton's preference for very stinky food. I've bought all the cat related breath freshing stuff I can find on Amazon but wondered if there is anything you wise cat slaves could recommend. Festive cat tax attached

What does he eat?

Cats notoriously have very (very) bad breath. It's normal!

But you're generally not close enough to smell a cat's mouth. It only happens occasionally.

It’s cat breath

I've never known a cat without bad breath - it's normal. Mine all stink of fish even though their food is all meat flavoured!

Sayoonara · 16/12/2024 14:41

You can actually smell his breath from a distance? That does seem a bit extreme.

I'm pretty well acquainted with my cat's breath but that's because she likes to yawn and wash her face when I hold her, with her face about 2 inches from mine. As others have said it's not great - it doesn't smell rotten but does smell of cat food. I can't smell from further away.

I think I'm getting too up close and personal! We do like a bit of nose to nose action and that's when I normally get a blast 🤢. I've got him some dental chews so hopefully that may help . Thanks everyone 🙂

Sounds weird, but my cats breath stank. Bought him some real fish as a treat, I think it was mackerel, and his breath stopped smelling for a couple of months! Not sure why.
