Cat missing for four days. All so sad :(

That's it really, as the title says. Our 8-year-old cat has been missing since Thursday afternoon. He visited a couple of neighbours, which he likes to do and then - nothing. He just vanished. We've tried everything we can think of - flyers in 50 nearest houses, checking sheds and garages, whatsapp groups, Facebook groups, posters, chip company, dirty laundry, hoover waste, calling at various times. But nothing.

At times I can take comfort that most cat owners seem to have had a cat that reappears after an absence but then I just have another big cry as I also realise he may be gone for good. I work from home so I'm just so used to him being part of my daily life. Our older DS is being very optimistic, the younger is distracted by friends but then gets upset. My DH and I are just utterly miserable. I guess I'm just looking for a handhold really from people who get how devastating it is when a cat is lost. And, if anyone has any tips for things we might not have tried, that would be really welcome too, thank you.

@LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway Thank you for your lovely message. When I read it, I had just received my daily prank call from the woman who likes to phone and miaow down the phone, so it was nice to have my faith in humans restored. I'm trying to balance hope with realism. We've checked every single shed in his 'territory' so hopefully he's just on an adventure and will return.

Awwww bless you. What a stupid doolally woman doing that. WTAF?! Hmm

Praying for your kitty to come home soon. 😢

Pudmyboy · 05/12/2024 18:54

Pranking you daily??? That dreadful woman!😡
Perhaps a bit dramatic but I like to think there's a special place in hell for people who torment others in their misery.

Updating this thread to give hope to anyone who comes across it in the future who is in the same situation.

After nearly three weeks, he came home! Just walked through the cat-flap. Skinny as anything and a little hoarse but very pleased to see us. He's grounded now!

Hope this gives a little hope to those with missing pets 😺

So pleased for you ☺️

FutureFry · 18/12/2024 12:46

Oh my gosh!
As hoarse, I'd wonder if he was meowing to get out of somewhere e.g. a shed or garage.

Give him a big cuddle, what a lovely story!!

CatChant · 18/12/2024 12:47

The very best Christmas present you could get! So pleased for you and the returned wanderer.

Sprig1 · 18/12/2024 12:48

How brilliant. Merry Christmas.

Stormyweatheroutthere · 18/12/2024 12:48

Ah happy ending! The little buggar! Hope he's been grounded....
So happy for you op.

Lindy2 · 18/12/2024 12:53

I'm so glad he's home.

GreenTeaLikesMe · 18/12/2024 12:56

I am so happy he came back at last.

Cannot believe you actually had someone prank phone call you. Somehow the fact that it was a woman makes it even stranger. I honestly think that if this happened to me, I would be furious enough to try and get the call traced just so I could shame the weirdo.

RubyDarke · 18/12/2024 12:57

Great news! They have no idea how much we worry about them.

PosiePetal · 18/12/2024 13:03

I just came on to say that my cat has gone AWOL for 4 days before now but so pleased to read your update! 3 WEEKS!

Breadcat24 · 18/12/2024 14:46

fantastic news

WinkyTinky · 18/12/2024 15:00

It's a Christmas miracle! 😀

FlowersOfSulphur · 18/12/2024 15:09

Aw, so glad he's home safely! What a purrfect Christmas present. The woman who prank called you, on the other hand...may the cream on her trifle curdle.

afaloren · 18/12/2024 15:10

Wonderful news. Happy Christmas!

Iamacatslave · 18/12/2024 16:18

Well I don't wanna parp my own trumpet! 😆🎺 But I did say... On 5 December.............

The good thing is he hasn't been found deceased.

So there's a strong chance he's going to turn up. I'm going to bet he returns before Christmas! Flowers

Ooooh I shoulda put a fiver on it! 😬

Only messing! 😍 I am SOOOOOOOOOOO pleased he's come back. Merry Kittymas to you all @Justcrackingon

NameChanges123 · 18/12/2024 17:10

That's brilliant 🤩

Lovemyassistancedog · 18/12/2024 17:23

I'm so glad for you!

I didn't see your thread until you posted your happy update but wouldn't have commented if I had because I've never known one of these stories to end happily in real life. Twenty years after he was last seen, I have a picture of my beloved cat who disappeared one day. I've never had a cat since and now have a dog. It was absolutely heart-breaking but I'm glad your story ended differently. Merry Christmas to all of you and the cat!

JaceLancs · 18/12/2024 18:40

So pleased for you - I’ve never had a cat go missing for as long as that but have a good friend who lost her cat for over 6 months he was handed in at a shelter in a town 20 miles away they then checked and found his chip

Christwosheds · 18/12/2024 18:44

So happy to read your update OP Flowers

Beamur · 18/12/2024 18:48
