Lost dcat during house move

And devastated. I can't enjoy my new house as I'm so upset.

2 cats, missing dcat is 3. Other dcat is 1 and very calm personality, walks straight into a carrier no issues.

Plan was to take them to my friends house the day before the move, so that they weren't in the way or distressed. Both are house cats.

Missing dcat wouldn't go in a carrier, kept running away. I managed to bundle her up into a towel, but as I put her in the car she dashed off and hasn't been seen since.

I feel so guilty, I should have put her in a carrier.

I've left note for the new owner, spoke to my neighbours and left notes for the neighbours that weren't home.

The thought of dcat coming back home and us not being there is breaking my heart. I think if she comes back "home" and there is someone else there she will be scared and run off anyway.

Just needed to get it out as I'm so upset and feel incredibly guilty. I wish I never moved.

Wonderful news. If only she could tell you where she’d been.

The house doesn't have a cat flap, she was an indoor cat so never needed one. I thought she would come to the door yesterday am before we left but never did.

I don't know the new owners but have left them a note, neighbours will keep an eye out.

Moved to the other side of town. I guess I could keep going back and calling for her, worried about making new owners uncomfortable too.

Will update microchip details, can't explain how devastated I am. I didn't want to leave without her but had no choice

Leaflet! My cat did something similar, blanketed the neighbourhood with leaflets I made and went back every day at different times to call. I would definitely ask the new buyers if it is ok to sit in the garden. It was the leaflets that got her back in the end though.

Oh what wonderful news! I was thinking about you and your cat just today. Poor baby. What lovely new owners.

GiftWrappedSuburbanDreams · 09/12/2024 18:27

That's such a relief! 😊 I hope she settles into your new home quickly and you can relax knowing she's safe.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 09/12/2024 18:28

Lovely news! But yes always a carrier for transport. Cats are slinky little bastards.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 09/12/2024 18:30

I have just read this whole thread and was feeling so much sympathy for you. And then the wonderful update! That must have been such a sad and horrible two weeks. It’s lovely to read that you’re reunited now and I hope you can enjoy your new home now that you’re all back together.

MissyGirlie · 09/12/2024 18:40

I've only just seen this thread but I'm so pleased for you.

Years ago DD, a child at the time, found a stray cat. He ended up joining our household despite us advertising him etc etc.

I often wondered who had owned him before, as he was a lovely sociable cat who had obviously lived in a house (and knew about dogs). I would still love to be able to find out where he came from and tell whoever loved him before we did that he had a long and happy life with us.

Edited for typo.

NightHouse · 09/12/2024 18:44

edited to say “yay, she’s back” (sorry, thought I’d read all your posts before posting)

tt2 · 09/12/2024 19:06

She's been hiding since we got her to the new home, as expected, she's a little bit smelly but other than that appears fine!

Hopefully she will start to feel a bit more confident to come out and about.
