Cats scratching dining chairs

I hope someone has some advice. We have recently invested in new dining chairs after getting rid of the last lot because of our cat scratching them. They were leather chairs but were quite old so it was time to replace them. However despite leaving a couple of the old scratched ones around in case kitty still wanted to scratch them she has taken to scratching the new ones. We have plenty of different scratching posts around as well, and she does go outside.
I thought about some kind of spray but all the reviews seem very poor, so does anyone know of anything that actually works?
Thank you!

Keep her out of the room they are in surely?

They are new in her territory so she's marking them as part of her domain.

Thanks for replying.
We have an open plan house so it's not possible to keep her out of the room.
Yes I get why she is doing it, I just want her to stop. They cost a lot and I was hoping that getting her new scratching posts/allowing her to scratch the old chairs would mean she was not interested in these ones. I am going back in the office next week after 4.5 years of wfh so can't police it the same and I was hoping someone would tell me a spray that worked for their cats.

We have used a feliway spray which reduced scratching but didn't stop it altogether. Have lots of scratching posts and place them near furniture she likes to scratch, but if they want to scratch, they’ll scratch.

Apparently taping some tinfoil to the legs temporarily can help, they hate the feeling of scratching it so much that they avoid the area even after the tinfoil has been taken off. Worth a try?

We have the same issue. I have put a new scratching post RIGHT next to the dining room chairs and she still prefers to scratch the chair.

I have found a spray that works, she used to scratch the rug when we got it as well but I doused the rug in this spray and it stopped her. However I can’t seem to find the spray anymore 😔 it smelt so bad like vinegar but really worked. I tried a different scent and it doesn’t work, no idea why I can’t find it anymore. Hopefully someone will be along to suggest something and then I can get it too 👀

@TellMeNotToGo Thanks I have now bought this one so we will see if it works.
@minipie I am off to put tinfoil on the legs of the chairs too.
@Username638 If I find anything that works I will definitely come back and let you know 😄
