He was 16. He was here with me since I was 18 and in my first flat. He's seen the entrance of DP, my dc, 5 other cats, my dog, 3 house moves, my mum having cancer, my grandad dying, redundancy... I feel very empty.

This was him earlier on today. He'd got cancer and he was really starting to struggle. I didn't want to keep him going for me. It was such a hard decision. But I didn't want to leave him until it was too late. He was still enjoying his food, but he was rapidly losing so much weight.

Handsome boy! It’s so hard to make that choice. It was right.

Thank you. This last week, I know it's awful, but I wished every day I'd find him dead, curled up in his favourite spot so I didn't need to make the decision for him.

The vet was wonderful and he agreed 100% with our decision. I am going to send an email to tell them how lovely he was and how much it meant to us.

I’m sorry. For us it always comes too soon.

He was beautiful and clearly very much loved. I hope it will be a comfort to know you gave him a happy life and freedom from pain when he needed it. Take care.

Thank you. I've just come to bed. And his hair is all over my duvet and I am trying to quietly sob so I don't upset the dc again. God it's so hard.

Oh , how but how lucky you are to have had the unconditional love and the peaceful presence of that little furry panther throughout the years and how your life changed .

You did him proud right the way through his life and when it mattered at the end , you did right by him.

Though he does look a tad judgey in that photo , had you dared to wake him up ?

We had woken him up. I think he was getting a bit fed up of being forced treats and cuddles over the last week.

Mum still talks of her childhood cats - and she’s in her 80’s.

I hope when we too die, our Souls will meet up again with beloved animals.
