Adopting a retired queen

I'm picking up my new cat next week. The breeder is rehoming her as she's had two sets of kittens, and she'd be better off living in a single cat household. Any tips about settling her in her new home?

Give her a room on her own to start. None of my ex queens had lived in a house, so we're a bit overwhelmed at first.

I wish I had a video of Dotty seeing stairs for the first time. She was 🤔🤔

That's so funny! I'll keep an eye out for her reaction

I collected my adopted cat today, and she's spent most of the evening under the side board in the kitchen. She did venture out when I sat by the sideboard and encouraged her. She's been purring and kneading, and having an explore. I think this can be classed as a success! She seems like a gentle soul.

We need the cat tax OP!

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2024 14:43

What breed is she?

Teaandsympathy34 · 21/11/2024 15:01

She's back under the settee now but when she comes out I'll pay the cat tax. She's a ragdoll. Can't believe how lucky I am to have her, she's got such a lovely temperament. Only thing I'm concerned about is that she hasn't eaten much yet - just a nibble here and there. I suppose that's natural at the moment as she's still nervous.

What have you called her?

Compash · 21/11/2024 15:03

What a lovely thing to do! She deserves a good home, sounds like she's got one with you. 😻

Teaandsympathy34 · 21/11/2024 15:09

She's called Pearl. She's an elegant cat so can see why her previous owner called her that.

I'm late paying the cat tax but here she is! She's starting to get more confident around the house. It's a real joy to see her slinking around the place. Can't believe how lucky I am to have her.

She's beautiful!

Toddlerteaplease · 26/11/2024 08:56

She's lovely. One of my Persians hid for a week. She then completely took over and dominated her sister.

Aww... Pearl is beautiful 😻

CeliaCanth · 26/11/2024 10:53

What a beauty!

We adopted a retired Bengal queen and she was a magnificent cat and a real member of the family. Good luck with Pearl.

She's beautiful!

Congratulations she is a beauty 😍

Just wanted to give an update on Pearl... She is the best cat I could have asked for: she loves affection, she's also really playful; she follows me round the house and is great company. I'm well and truly smitten. Can't imagine the house without her now!

That's lovely OP - you've found a soul-cat.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/12/2024 18:26

I absolutely love that! I've never heard that term before, but she is definitely my soul-cat.

Your ragdoll looks exactly like mine. Here’s mine making herself comfortable in DH’s chair🤣

Dcat was an ex breeding queen too. She was captivated by the TV at first and startled by household noises, don’t think she had been a ‘house cat’ either. I felt very sad for Dcat, she had a rough few years including time in a rescue but she lives the life of Riley with us😻

Our ragdoll isn’t a lapcat but she is like my shadow and incredibly loving. We all adore her.

They really are amazing cats.

@Doyouthinktheyknow that's exactly what she's like. Not a lap cat at the moment, but she follows me round the house. She definitely likes company.

@Doyouthinktheyknow I must add that your ragdoll is a beauty too. 😍
