I am going away

I can't tell this anyone in real life because they will think I'm ridiculous. I'm to leave for a business trip and feel a bit fragile emotionally for various reasons. So now I'm crying because I won't see my cat for a few days. Just want to stay at home with my boy and my only family. I know it's not his to carry and my cat sitter is absolutely fabulous. I wish I could stay with him.

I always worry about my cat so much when we're away. We have cameras all over the house so we can be notified of her every move. And literally 90% of the time she is asleep, and 100% of the time she really isn't bothered at all that we aren't there, as long as she is getting food and water, her litter tray cleaned out and some attention if she wants it from the cat sitter.

However, that doesn't stop us from always being upset without her - so I fully sympathise with you. You can understand how people (Americans) go in for taking their 'emotional support parakeet' (or whatever) away with them - but my cat has absolutely no time for emotional support, and would hate to be away from home. I bet yours is the same.

Hope he has a good time with the cat sitter and you're soon home again.

I have cameras as well. She really doesn't miss me.

It's not ridiculous! You love her, so you miss being with her. She won't be too bothered though, if she's anything like my cats. I also have multiple cameras around the house for when we're away.

Yes those wifi cameras are great

I am currently feeling awful about this same situation- actually worse.
I am torn between my cat and my husband both of whom I adore.

Before lockdown cat did not give a stuff- she liked our house and regular food but really did not seem to care if we went on holiday.
We moved house during lockdown and the cat had us there all the time (stockholm syndrome)
She is much more clingy now and getting older, sometimes I hear plaintive woowwl and have to call out for her to calm her.

We have gone away since max 12 days with cat sitter- she would never forgive us for kennels.

My husband has wanted to go to New Zealand for years. He has said if we do not go now we will be too old to do this kind of trip.
Booked in Jan- 3 weeks.
I am trying to be enthusiastic but I am just thinking about Breadcat and not being there if she cries

It's just difficult, isn't it? They aren't 'just a pet'. I thought about cameras but I don't want my cat sitter feeling watched.

I have made it to my destination and look forward to going home again in just a few days. She sent me photos and he's absolutely enjoying his puzzle feeder.

You are right, cats are happiest at home with what they know. I feel so terribly guilty that even as a seasoned cat lover I took only one kitten a few years ago. But I will get another soon and will take all the time in the world to introduce them.

I don't think I have been away for even a week since I got my cat. Doubt this will change even with two cats, but at least they will have another cat around.

Mine is always so happy when I get back after a few days away, I could swear I have seen him smile before lol.

I'm always so happy when I get to get home to my cat. He will meow for cuddles, I will immediately check the food situation and dish out a few treats. Then we each go about our day, but usually he cuddles up to me in bed the next morning.

I get love and cuddles for 2 days then she remembers she is supposed to be cross and sits with her back to me
