Cat insurance - what do I need to know

So I am keeping the kitten 😅

What do I need to know about cat insurance?

Never insured pets before but the charity that sorted her spay / worm / flea ( did donate to cover) insist on it ...

Get one that includes lifetime treatment for ongoing illnesses.
If it's an outside cat, the lowest level of cover wouldn't cover something like a serious injury, and the next level up doesn't cost much more.
Be aware that once the cat is over c7 years old the premiums will go up hugely - I'd get a couple of online quotes for an old cat and use that as the comparison rather than a kitten which will be relatively cheap.
Also be aware that it's not like car insurance where you can move around each year with no consequence. Any new policy will most likely not cover ANYTHING which is on your cat's notes, whether you claimed on insurance or not.

We have always used either Pet Plan or Tesco. Both have settled quickly and easily. Tesco don't have excesses which increase hugely with age like Pet Plan (I think we had to pay 25% of the bill with PP when our cat was old).

My 5-year-old indoor cat’s on PetPlan, which friends recommended. That’s interesting about Tesco, @BuzzieLittleBee.

Tesco have always been brilliant for me and also cover dental treatment depending which plan you take out
They just paid the OOH vet for mine within 10 days, direct payment
