Cat acne

Does anyone have any experience o1f dealing with cat acne please. One of our cats has it quite bad and I think it is painful for him. He is quite an anxious cat so don't really want to take him to the vets if there is something I can do at home, thanks very much

How bad is his acne? Mine had to get antibiotics and steroids once but at that point he had pustules and bleeding.

I was given hibiscrub at one point to wash his chin, another time I was given a foam but I can't remember the name of it. Gently brushing the chin with a toothbrush and washing it makes a big difference.

I noticed my cat's acne disappeared when I started giving him wet food instead of dry, I don't know if the dust from the crunchies was getting stuck in his chin and irritating it.

Thank you for replying, it looks very red and sore although no pustules, I have tried brushing his chin but he doesn't like it and just snaps back, we give him wet and dry and also changed all the bowls to stainless steel but doesn't seem to have made any difference, I did wonder if there was a cream we could use?

I bought some gel from Amazon (Clorexyderm) which cleared it up. I used to gently pick off the black spots!

One of mine has chronic chin acne (she has IBD so is more prone to it). I have a supply of chlorhexidine wipes from my vet. Your boy's chin sounds pretty bad and will be painful, so I really would advise getting him to the vet. Be careful whatever treatment you get, cats' skin is so delicate that things made for humans aren't safe to use on them.
