Effing Fireworks

LittleBeast is still terrified at the sound of fireworks. We plugged in Feliway as a precaution days ago but have had them blasting off for days now - I suppose because Diwali overlap. I just don't get the point. He and I stay in the most 'sound proofed' room but he's a cat; he can still hear the bangs. He's the most loving, cuddly cat and I'm his usual place of safety but I have to make a 'toddler / kiddy fortress' using blankets, large armchair and box for cowering beast. He doesn't twitch an ear at thunderstorms. BastardCat was never bothered and would probably have rocked up to advise on better ratios of ingredients to ensure more bang for your money.

Dog owner here <ducks> but I find it strange how some animals care and some don't. My childhood dog would hide and cower, even though she was fine 99% of the time. Current dog is completely oblivious, even though he's scared of twigs, leaves, stairs, wet grass and everyone. WHY?

My cat is scared of fireworks. She's also terrified of strangers, other cats, other animals, tin foil, cat boxes and the vet, and even us if we happen to be wearing a hat.

She seemed more scared this year than normal but we were very nonchalant about them and reassuring to her - reassuring tone, strokes etc and she's chilled out a bit after the first few days of fireworks. I do think it helps if you are relaxed. Appreciate all pets are different though. We will never get her chilled and relaxed about a cat box and vet visit, regardless of how chilled and reassuring we are!!!

I love fireworks. They bring a little but of excitement and joy to an otherwise difficult life. And I don't think we should run our lives around animals (or other people's for that matter) random and irrational fears.

Oddly my giant scaredy cat cat doesn’t care whatsoever about fireworks, but my giant scaredy cat dog is terrified. I wonder why that is? It’s awful though, I hate the fireworks which seem to go on from well before Halloween until after New Year’s.

We've had fireworks all weekend. My poor cat hides under the bed. I've had everything I can turned up loud.
