My cat fell in water

My cat came home today completely sodden and shouty. He’d obviously been submerged in stagnant water and was filthy and stank. We washed him in the kitchen sink (fun …!) and he’s been mainly sleeping ever since.

There are no ponds or rivers nearby but there’s a big trough in a nearby farmyard, probably full of old muddy water. I reckon he jumped up and fell in that.

Aside from him being embarrassed and now smelling of rose scented bubble bath (the shame) should I be worried that he could have ingested stinky farm water? He’s very subdued and doesn’t want to go out again but he has eaten and drank. Is he just shocked?

Shocked, embarrassed and furious at being given a wash I imagine! 😹

If he's eating, drinking and is now warm and dry I'd just keep an eye on him (especially his tummy/ poop) for few days.

He might not like smelling/ tasting of rose bubble bath so if he doesn't seem keen on washing himself you may need to wipe him with a warm, damp cloth a few times a day, until the smell/ taste are completely gone, cats are very sensitive to taste and smell.

Poor thing. Hope he is okay. If eating, drinking and poo-ing that's good but I would get checked at vet.

He’s snoozing away at the moment but whenever he wakes he washes various body parts, so hopefully it doesn’t taste too bad and isn’t poisoning him, ffs didn’t think of that.

I’ll see at bedtime if he sticks to the usual routine (lies on me purring in my face with his paw on my mouth until I give him a chew stick)

The bubble bath has probably made his skin a bit sore, it’s got ingredients in it to strip oils so your cats coat is most likely annoying her. Maybe buy a cheap pet shampoo.
