Both my cats have been killed in less than 2 weeks

I just don’t know how I’ll get over this.

The baby, only 1 year old, went missing on 13th October, I knew she wasn’t coming back after she’d been gone an hour as she was always popping her head back in, there have been zero sightings of her despite pleas on Facebook and putting notes through doors.

The older one, still only 2, I found killed on the road yesterday, left by the person who’d killed her. She was she sweetest most loving cat who never usually left my side or the garden. Her AirTag showed she’d been gone from home for 23 minutes. I snoozed my alarm for 30 minutes, if I’d have been up at the normal time, maybe she’d still be here.

How do you go on when you’ve lost two of the most precious things in your life? 😭

Oh I'm so sorry for your losses op. SadFlowers

Oh you poor thing, this is so upsetting, I am so, so, sorry. 💔

Firstly, can I recommend you do something to help move those awful images out of your head? It sounds daft, but playing Tetris, or other game, is proven to help with this.

Secondly, sit with your grief. Allow yourself to howl your eyes out. If at all possible, simply grieve - for a day, a week, a month.

Thirdly, please try not to go over the details in your head too much. You don't want them to bed in the front of your mind all the time.

It's an odd psychological thing; you know it's happened, it was horrendous. Finding your baby like that, trust me, I know 😭 but that vision needs to find a space to sit further back in your mind.

I can't share too much as it would be outing, but I was/am in the same situation but a few weeks further on.

Sending you so many hugs right now.

Oh OP, I’m so sorry.

RandomMess · 26/10/2024 15:54

So sorry, one of ours was killed by a dog that pulled his owner over, we still miss him so much 4 years on.

Oh OP. I am so very very sorry.

My boy was killed four weeks ago and I don't think I will ever get over it. The thought of losing two is unimaginable.

My heart goes out to you.

If you haven't found cat no 1, she may not be dead. have you contacted every Vet and cat rescue in the area ? Was she micro chipped - have you notified the microchip company that she is missing.
Have you asked about her on your local facebook page with photos.
it's only been 2 weeks.

I have done all of this, notified all the vets, follow all the rescues.
She was microchipped which has been registered lost and spayed. I keep posting on Facebook to keep her seen.

She was a little monkey and I worried everytime she was out of my sight.

the older one has me in shock, I’ve never know her cross that road, she was scared of her own shadow nevermind the noise of cars.

it was 6am in the morning, I thought they were safter then with less traffic

Heartbreaking OP. I'm so sorry sorry. Devastating. Don't stop searching for your kitty. Is there a local lost and found group on FB? There is a very active one where I am. Don't lose hope.

Treeinthesky · 26/10/2024 16:34

Get a British short hair they don't like going out

BiffandChip2 · 26/10/2024 16:35

My indoor cat went missing in July and not one person had seen her. She had got out by mistake. She was chipped. But nothing.

2.5 months later someone just rang me they'd found her 2 streets down - she's been home since. I'm so sorry about your 2nd cat BUT wanted to give you hope for the 1st xx

Thank you.

Im so wary about putting my phone number anywhere as in my local missing pets group, people have been getting horrible phone calls from people saying they have murdered their cat/dog 😭

Google missing cat tips, they rarely travel far and there are lots of things you can do like spreading their used litter around outside the house to guide them back.

I actually used the site Pets Reunited and it was there they found me looking for her. Totally get what you mean about the mobile number - I was the same. Really hope they turn up for you xx

I am so sorry about your cat that was killed. One of mine died aged two and I was totally bereft.

Ref your first cat, google missing cat behaviour. There is every chance that she is still alive. I have lost two cats and both turned up. But I did follow the tips online, including putting food out.

Pudmyboy · 26/10/2024 19:21

Just wanted to join in saying how very sorry I am to hear what ha been happening, so awful for your poor little one, I really hope the other one returns.
Some great advice on this thread, I hope it helps, but all I can given you is an unMumsnetty hug 🤗

JMSA · 27/10/2024 19:13

I'm so, so sorry Flowers

Doyouthinktheyknow · 27/10/2024 19:37

I’m so sorry, that is so desperately sad💐 What a huge loss!
I hope your missing kitty turns up safe and well very soon. There are so many lost kitties reunited on local Facebook pages, don’t lose hope just yet.

unmemorableusername · 28/10/2024 18:04

Dont blame yourself for hitting snooze.

It's just one of those things you can't prevent.
