Inconsistent eater

Does anyone’s cat not have a favourite brand of food? UserCat will gobble something down for 12 sachets and bug me for it constantly so I’ll buy a mega box of it only for he’ll go off it about a third of the way in. I’ll then only give him half sachets ant an time until the box is empty then try something else.

He doesn’t like gravy so it has to be with jelly, prefers fish over chicken and has had everything from the cheapest to the most expensive but nothing sticks. Actually I lie, he went nuts for some kitten food that a friend’s kitten didn’t like but I’m guessing it was full of sweet stuff. He spent about two weeks constantly purring.

Anyone else’s feline like this?

Mine will eat any "in jelly and not fish" food but likes it to be mashed - I have had her teeth etc checked no problem at all and she can easily chomp through dried food and chicken. So if I appear to make a fuss over her dinner she will eat it, if I just flop half a pouch in the bowl she isn't interested so it may be a texture thing or a "can't get the staff" moment.
I am told that cats don't taste sweet very well but I could be wrong, however the kitten food will be mushy ??

I cannot start mashing his food! Imagine when I tell anyone else who looks after him “yes, he’s a really easy cat but please just mash his food 8 times with this special fork”! I’m going to try it tonight!

Oh god, welcome to the world of picky eaters that cost you a fortune.

TempCat only likes mousse textures - not pate, mind - mousse. Maybe the gravy off lumpy stuff but not the lumps unless you mash them up with the gravy & some water and even then it's possible he'll not eat it anyway.

So he gets mousse. I've tried them all and the one he'd consistently eat got discontinued. Of course it did. 😡 I've got a small stash left in case I ever need to get medicine inside him.

So now he gets one brand (Purina Revelations) Salmon or Tuna only which he usually eats but sometimes he just decides he doesn't like it and walk off. Luckily he likes dry food and is a lot less fussy about that.

So no help, just sympathy. Oh - never buy a big batch when it's on sale 'cos that's a guarantee your cat will go off it.

We are still learning about our new overlord's preferences. For now I have discovered that he likes shreds in gravy, will tolerate chunks but shreds are preferred.

Absolutely no pate, this is inedible. If you mash chunks a bit to try to make them more like the shreds, sorry you have rendered them inedible.

Tuna and chicken based flavours are both acceptable.

Just half a pouch/tin at a time, please, he is teeny tiny and couldn't possibly manage more than that (he's actually quite a large cat 😄).

We went through loads with our boy - when he came from CP he was on Whiskas wet and dry so I wanted to get him off those. Our previous girl had Felix or Sheba, and Royal Canin dry. He wolfed the dry but just licked at the wet. We cycled through various brands, including raw food that cost a million pounds, and he now gets Sheba in gravy and the RC biscuits. He doesn’t love the fishy flavours as much as the poultry ones, and beef is only just above fish in his chart.

For an ex stray kitten who frequently breaks into the kitchen waste caddy, he is remarkably fussy about actual cat food. Our girl ate every scrap and licked the plate clean in minutes, but this wee boy is more of a grazer which I initially worried about - I think it’s just his way. I had fish for dinner last night (my DP doesn’t eat fish so I tend to eat a lot of it if he’s away with work) and kept a bit back for him. You’d have thought I’d tried to feed him poison, but the other week he was in amongst baked beans I was about to heat up!
