Cat sitter

I’m trying to avoid a cattery for Dcat so have arranged twice daily visits while we go away for one night only over Christmas. We lost my brother this year and we all need to be together at Christmas hence us needing to travel.

This is okay isn’t it? I feel terrible about it.

She has never been left overnight since we adopted her as an adult 3 years ago.

We’ve left her all day but nothing more. When we go away, adult ds looks after her. She’s such a needy little fluffball but taking her with us would be so much more distressing for her!

I’m just so worried about her but she hates going anywhere, she was distressed in the rescue before we got her. I think this is the best option.

Is this what other people do?

I don't mind though. It's nice we've both got a little pet that loves us the most

Can I just ask everyone- am I talking too much, like am I being annoying ? Please be honest. I'm on dihydrocodeine with my tooth, and feeling woozy and overstimulated. I looked over and noticed I posted quite a lot here. and on a few other posts too. be honest please i would rather know and log off for the night if im irritating everyone I talk to or ruining the conversation ! I don't want to be that person !

Your absolutely fine @Namechangetotalkaboutmysleepingpillsproblem, nice to have a natter and the litter tray is a lovely gentle corner of MN🫶🏻

I hope your toothache eases, don’t think there is any worse pain!

Its funny because dh didn’t want a cat but he loves her as much as the rest of us😻

Cats are not children and they’re not dogs. They can manage a night on their own just fine. We leave ours at home whenever we go on holiday and arrange for a cat-loving friend to drop in twice a day to feed him and give him a little fuss. Cats are territorial and they’d much prefer to stay in their familiar surroundings with visits twice a day than to be put in a cattery or to be taken to a strange house. Enjoy your time with your family at Christmas.

Thanks so much everyone for the reassurance. She is so pampered and rules us completely, it’s hard not to feel guilty for even contemplating it!

We would have got her a friend but she hates other cats and the rescue we got her from found the same so she’s an only cat for her sake😻

I would have loved someone who could stay but it’s a big ask over Christmas.

She will be very grumpy on our return but we will leave lights and radios on and she can have free range of our bedrooms.

I go away regularly so get people to stay using sitter sites. I prefer it as my cat stays in her home with someone around and it much is so much cheaper than a cattery or short twice a day visits. Different sitters will apply and you can choose who to accept.

This is the one I've used for the past few years and have met some amazing people. A few I have as regular sitters now. Annual fee between 120-250.

I just wanted to come back and say a massive thank you to all those that offered reassurance. Dcat survived a night on her own with a cat sitter popping in twice Christmas Day and this morning.

She sulked when we got home but couldn’t keep it up longer than 5 minutes😻

I found the cat sitter through Pawshake and she was so lovely, worth every penny.

We wouldn’t leave her alone longer than a night but it’s reassuring to know we can leave her if needed.

That’s great! I’m so glad it all worked out.
