Kittens going to the litter tray together

It's like a girls' night out - if one of them goes to the litter tray, the other one stops what she's doing and rushes over to join her in there. Is this normal or are my kittens weirdos?! It's very cute, though it does mean a lot of litter is getting on the floor with two kittens trying to bury their business at the same time.

That sounds v cute!

MermaidEyes · 03/10/2024 09:53

They're just getting in practice for when they're older - bitching about male cats and holding the fur back when they're throwing up!

I do think it's quite normal though. Mine used to do this and still have to go and check out what they're missing when one's been in there!

rosydreams · 03/10/2024 10:45

hahaha cats are so funny they each have their own weird habits .I love the hunting calls mine makes at bugs

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 03/10/2024 10:47

Ours would never go in at the same time.. 🤣

My two used to do that when they were very young, I'm convinced that one needed to make sure the other didn't eat the litter. (She liked to eat Catsan)

Think it was more because that's how mum trained them to use the tray, when she used it she took them too. They grew out of it though.

It is very cute 😻

When I was fostering a mum & son, every time mum used the tray son would dash over to watch.

Never the other way round though.

Bjorkdidit · 03/10/2024 11:16

I also fostered and had that. I took a photo and put it on social media with a caption about how you never get to go to the loo in peace when you have kids, which resonated with lots of mums.

Photo or it didn’t happen OP

I feel this mirrors my life! The minute I open the bathroom door I have a 2 year old making a dash to see what I am doing? Why are you going to the bathroom? Can I watch you on the potty? Um no darling, Mummy wants peace!

The photo proves it! It's to stop one of them eating the Catsan 😹 It was my Tabby.

Sweethearts! Love the photos.

If you have two cats you really should have two or more litter trays. Especially as they get bigger.

We have one litter tray and four adult cats - nobody complains.

I’m aware of the general advice but they don’t want 2 litter trays, at least at the moment. Nor do they want 2 food bowls, they just both try eating out of the same bowl if you plate up separately. In foster care they were offered 2 litter trays and would only use one. Since they are confined to one room for the short term, it seemed silly to take up space with an extra litter tray that they don’t want.

I got 2 sisters from cats protection. I gave them 3 trays, then 2 then just gave up and put down 1 big tray. They didn’t use the other ones

when one has a poo the other one goes and has a poo straight after. Think it’s a sibling thing

Same here. Cats perfectly happy. We empty it regularly.

RandomMess · 03/10/2024 20:56

I have 4 adults, they often queue up one after the other!

Manyindigowings · 04/10/2024 10:04

Very British moggies - queuing up politely.

Plump82 · 04/10/2024 21:42

When mine were kittens boy cat would go and girl cat would sit and watch. He'd jump out and she'd go in and cover up whatever he'd left!!

stormsandsunshine · 04/10/2024 22:20

Typical man letting a woman clean up after him! Mine are both girls and obsessed with covering up every last crumb. (Especially the white one, who sometimes goes back a few minutes later apparently dissatisfied with how well she has covered it and chucks some more litter about.)

Had to share this to show how bonded they are to each other.
At the moment, though, they are chasing each other round and doing parkour on the furniture.

Oh, they're adorable.

Ketzele · 04/10/2024 23:26

They are SO lovely.

And all cats are weirdos. My two will only drink water from a teacup on the side table next to my chair. They have their own teacup.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 04/10/2024 23:28

We have a kitten that is obsessed with the toilet. If one of us is using it she comes in. She also drinks out of it 🤢. Old cat was using litter tray the other day and kitten went straight over to watch 🤣
