Thyroid and meds

In march I took one of my cats age 9 to the vets due to a small lump on her leg with recent episodes of sickness/ dhioreah constant hunger with weight loss.

Was told she probarly had hyperthyroidism but also she has a heart murmer.

She has since been on meds for thyroid, started out on 2.5mg x 2 daily which increased to 3mg x 2 daily then 5mg x 2 daily.

She put a bit of on weight up untill last month and then lost a bit.

She has improved in so much as not crying for food constantly, no more vomiting etc since March.

This week had follow up blood test i was told T4 levels are still very high 101 instead of between 19-62.

She has put a tiny amont of weight back on and although not back to usual weight she is not really underweight.

Meds have to be increased to 6mg x 2 daily now, to be seen in 4 weeks for blood test.

I am sitting here thinking surley an increase of 1mg 2 x daily isn't going to be enough to get her levels down to 62 or lower in 4 wks.

So why would they not increase it a bit more as they did when it increased from 3mg to 5 before.

Tests of the small lump on her leg previously came back inconclusive, but due to the thyoid issues they couldnt and still cant sedate her to remove it as a precaution or take a heart scan.

Appreciate any advice or suggested questions I can ask when I call the vets to ask why such a small increase etc.

I'm not sure about the dosage

But have you thought about the radioactive treatment?

Yes I have, have you had this with your pet ?

It was breifly discussed when first dignosed so yet to be discussed more with vet and research myself.

My concern is that she wouldn't do well isolated away from home for few weeks all my cats are very unsociable and scared of anyone / everything !!

Also I'm not sure if it's OK with the heart murmer.

I haven't actually had it with my cat. I'm doing the thyronorm. However I think if my cat was younger like your age I'd do it.
It's short term pain for long term gain isn't it

But don't know if the heart murmur would affect it or not

Same meds as yours, vet did say could be better option as she is still relatively young.
I'll call them tomorrow and ask about why small increase, I will discuss R/active in few weeks time I think.
Thank you, hope yours is OK
