Recommendations for cat tracking collars

Hi!

I have a 9 month old kitten (Twix, she's a Bengal) who is primarily an indoor cat but we let her out in the garden under supervision and with a harness. She has managed to escape a couple times, luckily she hasn't gone too far but I'm looking for a tracking collar just in case. For reference, I've attached a picture of Twix plotting her escape into the neighbours garden.

I'm looking for one that shows you live updates of where she is on a map.
I have looked into both PetTracer (due to its light weight design and combination of GPS and radio signals, I heard GPS doesn't work if she's indoors) and Tractive (I've seen a lot of reviews for it).

I've seen some people use Airtags but I don't really like the idea of needing a bluetooth connection, and would like something that can detect her with a wide enough range because she is quite fast.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions/experiences with tracking collars to help my decision. Thanks :)

She's beautiful. We used Tiles which were fine until we tried the ones with replaceable batteries - batteries always failing and the tiles got wet.

We now have AirTags. No escapes since we got them, so not sure how good they would be, but a friend managed to track her cat very quickly when he'd travelled quite a distance, so hoping they work for us.

No help re the tracker but can I just say , Twix is the Best Name Ever for a cat this colour Grin

I am also looking into this
im tempted by pettracer and tractive seems very large
atm I use tab cat which works up to about 400metres. It lights up when the cat is near but you do have to walk around a bit. Its been very good and the one time she lost her collar i found it using the device, but i would like to see where she goes and where shes been.

I have Tractive trackers on my 3 cats. The latest model is much smaller and lighter than previous ones and even the smallest boy doesn't mind wearing it. I've found them very reliable and have all but one time managed to find it when they come back without it.

I use Tractive! It is big and bulky but I can find them when they wander.

Tractive here, boy cat has the older bigger one after he went missing for 5 days and has since got himself locked in a shed over night - with the tracker I could knock on the owners door and ask them to let him out 🙄

My girl is a much smaller cat but after she went out one afternoon and came back at 6 am she is now the proud owner of a new mini tractive. I find the GPS tracking good, when we have lost one previously it was relatively easy to find and retrieve (fingers crossed)

A friend has recommended Tractive to me. I did a big compare across the various trackers and I think it's probably one of the best.

OP, FWIW I've just looked up Tractive Mini and found that it's currently very significantly reduced on Amazon. I've never used one, but maybe...

yorkypuds · 06/09/2024 16:57

The devices are cheap but you have to sign up to the gps plan for the year which is about £80?
I don't think that was completely clear with them!

Thanks! Do you find much of a difference between the mini and normal apart from size? And when poor guy getting trapped in a shed😂did the tracker show him in there despite being indoors as I've heard that's where tractive has some faults

It showed his position as stationary for a couple of hours in the location of the shed so I worked it out.
The smaller one isn't hugely smaller, but the battery life doesn't appear as good, I can mostly get up to 6 days on the big one if I don't do "live" location and have it on power saver automatically when he's in the WiFi zone of my house.

It's been interesting seeing where they go too, and it's great for peace of mind
