Claiming on pet insurance question?

cat Has developed a bald spot on her head which we saw today and she’s also got cracked paw pads. Made a vet appointment for tomorrow. If the vet starts suggesting any expensive tests do we have to check with the insurance company first that they’ll cover it? Never claimed on pet insurance before.

Depends! Somewhere in your document there will be a "how to make a claim " section, just follow the instructions as insurers do have different rules

Thanks,it just says start a claim online. I’m just nervous if the bill is ££££ and they say she’s not covered and I’ve paid 🤷‍♀️. Only got her insured 3 weeks ago, I know she wasn’t covered the first two weeks but she is now.

If it's a pre existing condition the insurance likely won't pay out. Considering you just insured her three weeks ago it could look to the insurer that you got insurance after you noticed this medical issue with the sole purpose of getting them to cover costs that you would otherwise need to pay for.

This is the issue. I’m not that bothered about her laws as Google said it could be dryness and to put balm on and it’s improved loads. But the hair loss was genuinely only noticed today. I get that this happening three weeks after taking out insurance seems suspicious but her fur was fine a few days ago.

I think you need to check if there’s any delay before you can actually use the insurance, and what is covered.

That said, we are with PetPlan and they’ve never refused to pay for anything ever. I did once phone to check something first and they were lovely and said of course.

Thanks, there was a two week period where the cat wouldn’t be covered and we were beyond that. Cat has been diagnosed with an autoimmune illness and started on steroids. So far nothing seems expensive so am not planning on claiming atm.
