Honestly, I cannot comprehend why someone would choose to have a human child over a cat, dog or parrot.

Just why?

🤣 I hear you! Except, I have two gorgeous grown up kids and have always had cats and dogs. I simply can't imagine life without them, and think people who walk without are dog must be mad, or sad, or something...
I can't comment on the parrot, except (sorry), I feel they should always remain in the wild.

Not so much when they're small, but kids grow up to be very helpful with looking after the pets. Well, some of them do. Most of mine now have their own pets in their own homes.

I don't really see it as a comparison issue, choosing one 'over' the other. I have never wanted children, and I love cats and dogs. If I was unable to have a cat or dog, say, I was in rented accommodation that didn't allow pets, I wouldn't think of adopting a child as a second best substitute (or conceiving one in the days when I was of childbearing age).
