Keeping cat bum clean?

We have a a lovely little cat with quite long fur. Quite often there will be a bit of poo stuck in the fur around her bum.

How do you manage this? We usually take a scissors and eventually manage to cut off the worst of it. My partners says he has seen online that people shave the fur in that area to keep it short? I don't even know how we would go about that, she freaks out when we need to use the scissors.

Just wondering what other people do?

Our cat has the same problem. We take her to the vet a couple of times a year for what they call a hygiene trim 😁. The fur is short enough to last 6 months or so until it becomes a problem again. Obviously not as cheap as doing it yourself, but there is NO WAY my cat would let me do it (she is super good for the ver nurse though).

Obviously there is a cost but the appointment is with the vet nurse (not the vet) so it’s cheaper at our ver practice.

Meant to say your cat is lovely btw!

With my longhair we wrap him in a towel with his head and bum sticking out, then one person holds the cat cocoon and the other wields the scissors. He is a total wuss though so doesn’t put up much of a fight. I’d have no chance with my fiesty girl, it’s a good job she’s got short hair as she’d definitely have to have a shave under anaesthetic.

Some Groomers will do a hygiene trip as well. Or follow cat round with wet wipes!

Very relieved to own a short haired cat after reading this. He does not take kindly to anyone going near his bum....even when it has a tick attached to it!

@Greenstabilo thanks! A hygiene trim lol those poor vet nurses. I'll definitely look into this at the vet although she gets so stressed when she goes that it may not be worth it!

@Tygertiger thank you for this mental image I'm not sure if my girl would ever forgive us for putting her through that indignity.

@helpfulperson thank you, we don't seem to have any groomers locally that do cats - just dogs. Maybe I'll look a bit further afield to avoid a daily cat bum wipe!

@WonderingWanda we definitely did not think about this aspect when we chose the little ball of fluff. Rookie error!

Hygiene trip and the vets or a groomer. I had two long haired Persians, trust me, it's essential! As is making sure the don't get loose poo!

Thanks all, I've just ordered some cat clippers off Amazon that had good reviews.

We have a all white long haired cat her tail and fur near her bottom can get messy sometimes, so one person holds her and I wipe with baby wipe/ wet cloth and i then cut the bits of dirty fur off.
She hates but it doesn't take long and she would not like the noise of clippers.

Me too...although we did need to give his bum a clean when he had to wear a cone - dear god the affronted look on his face Grin

Ahh, I have a similar cat!

I have taken her for a hygiene trim a few times but prices went up considerably. I've now bought a cat shaver off eBay and just do it myself.

She is not thrilled about it so I bribe her with a large amount of dreamies and just go for it. She can be quite aggressive but I haven't been injured yet.

It's not pretty, I've found speed is more important than style.

I have a short hair cat, he doesn't have poo hanging on his fur but he seems to have an aversion to keeping his bum pink and sparkling clean. To be honest that's the only negative thing I can think of about being reincarnated as a cat.
