Problem with SureFlap microchip pet door forgetting things

Has anyone else had these problems with the SureFlap Microchip pet door eg:

  1. Simply “forgetting” what time it is and randomly resetting the time/clock – so when on the curfew mode (eg cats can use the door from 10am till 3pm) it’s opening because it thinks it afternoon but is in fact late evening. Or
  2. When it’s been set to let cats in but not out (not using the curfew mode) – it resets itself to let them in or out as they please.
This is our fourth SureFlap microchip pet door. Two of which were purchased and two were replacements because the purchased ones developed this same problem. When we get a new pet door it works fine for around a year, after which these problems start and they carry on till we replace the pet door. I’ve had many conversations with the Sure pet door people and they don’t have a reason or a solution, I’ve reset the pet door many times but once the problems begin, getting a new one seems to be the only solution. There have been mutterings about electrical interference – the pet door leads out of our utility room to the garden – the utility room includes a washing machine and dryer as well as our oil boiler but if they were causing the problem I would expect it to start immediately not for the pet door to work perfectly for 12 months or so… We’ve also had it suggested that the metal frame in the back door could be causing the problem but virtually all doors these days have some kind of metal frame so that doesn’t seem to made sense and again if it were the cause of the problems why would the pet door work perfectly well for so long before going wrong. We’ve thought of simply replacing it with a different make of pet door but it’s in an expensive back door and the size of the pet door hole in it would only fit another SureFlap pet door – so to change to another make of pet door would mean buying a new back door. In the event that we give up on SureFlap products - what microchip cat/pet door would people recommend? (Our cats are large – so standard size cat flaps don’t work for them).

Following because we’ve just got the Connect catflap and this is a bit worrying to see! Although we have it in a glass and UPVC door (no metal) in a conservatory with no electrical appliances. I don’t think I’d risk putting it in a door with metal but I hear that it’s odd it takes so long to go wrong.

Ours hasn't been too bad but does get through batteries quite quickly. In curfew mode I find I read the open and close buttons the other way round, according to my logic anyway 😆 Could it be something as simple as setting the open time when you mean to be setting the closed time?

We have just bought some batteries in bulk from Duracell online - they seem to have the best prices. You’ve have me glad I did this!
