Hi all. Our 1 year old Siberian boy is not at all cuddly or loving. He’s only really motivated by food and otherwise keeps to himself.

I would love him to be more of a lap cat but understand that cats have their own personalities. However, his unwillingness to sit is causing issues with his grooming and he has lots of matted fur.

I do what I can to brush him including bribing with treats but it is still tricky.

I am looking for suggestions on how to keep him groomed, happy and healthy!

Can you take him to a professional groomer? If not, some vets will also do it under sedation if absolutely necessary.

Matts will be really painful for him and it may even hurt him to sit - if he associates sitting near you with being brushed (and it hurting) then he'll be even more reluctant.

One of my cats had mats and wasn't keen on grooming. Took her to the vet - they gave her gabapentin to calm her and then did a bit of shaving.
Much cheaper than having to have anaesthesia.

Professional groomer s wet few months. Costs a fortune, but it's the only way to keep them knot free.
