Cat flap?

We've been thinking for some time about applying to get a rescue cat. But I'm so confused at what to do about a cat flap. A lot of the adverts for cats say that they will require a cat flap. But when I've looked into getting one fitted it reads as though you already have the cat, as you need to know the size of your cat first. We would need to have a whole glass panel changed so it's not a simple job. Is it sensible to get the cat flap sorted prior to applying for a cat? I'm guessing we need to or the rescue centre wouldn't consider us anyway?

Catflaps are a standard size, as far as I know.

When you first get the cat you will have to keep it indoors for a few weeks whilst they get used to their new home. During that time you can see what size flap you need (small, medium or large) and have it fitted. We have always had large cat flaps (even when our cats were small) as some cats hate 'squeezing' through the smaller ones! You can also get flaps built into the wall (like a little cat tunnel) if you don't want to have it fitted into a glass door.

Flaps do vary in size , my cat was very large and needed the biggest one I could get.

Thanks, I'll contact the rescue centre and see what they say. Just trying to be as organised as possible, but I'm probably over thinking it as usual for me.
