Male or female kitten?

We have two rescue cats, ages 6 and 2, both neutered males. They are not antagonistic to each other but are not bonded either. They don't play together, just with us individually.

I'd like to introduce a kitten to the family as he/she would likely bond more readily with our boys as he grows up, and bring more playfulness into the mix.

Would a male or female kitten be best? I've heard differing opinions, and I guess it depends on personality? The ideal would be a kitten who is not threatening to our adult boys, does not make them feel they need to fight for territory or attention, and is cuddly, affectionate, and playful.

You can't tell a kitten's personality. Male or female, means nothing.

You need to introduce them properly. Very slowly is the key and has the highest likelihood of a familiar relationship, but don't expect them to be besties. They might be! They also might barely tolerate each other.

Jackson Galaxy has fantastic resources on youtube about how to properly introduce a kitten to established cats.
