Any tips for introducing a puppy into the mix?

Has anyone got any tips for introducing a puppy to a cat that's used to being the only pet? We've had our cat for three years now and when we got her, I promised DP that he could have the dog he's always wanted.

A friend has recently had a litter of mini dachshunds and we're going to have one of the puppies.

My friend has cats, so the dog is used to cats but the cat is not used to dogs.

Any tips on introducing them?

We're keeping them apart which is pretty easy because the cats prefer one part of the sitting room. Puppy cannot jump on to furniture yet, and so far hasn't bothered cats. They are not impressed, but not worried either. He is a calm pup, and a week in, no barking or boisterous running around indoors.
