Water fountains?

Wondering about getting a water fountain for my old boy. We have various bowls of water outside that he uses. I don't have one inside as he sometimes knocks it over if he brings in a mouse.

Does anyone have a fountain that filters and plugs in. If so

How long before it needs changing?
How clean does it stay?
Does your cat use it?

Recommendations welcome!

Our cat absolutely LOVES his water fountain! We’ve got the Catit Pixi one - cost about £25 from Amazon. It’s very quiet and also looks cute. We used to have the Cat Mate one which was a lot noisier and more annoying to clean.

I empty and clean ours every couple of weeks - the filter keeps the water clean so you don’t need to constantly empty and change it like with a bowl, you can just top up the water on a day to day basis. The filter needs changing every 28 days. We get filters from Amazon Subscribe & Save - it’s about £6 for a box of 6.

I’d recommend getting a water fountain cleaning kit - if you put that into Amazon you should get results with a set of three blue and white brushes.

Morning! It's been a good few years since we used one as it was bought for a previous cat who had kidney disease. They don't seem to make the one that we had any more, but our cat was trying to use it before I even had a chance to plug it in! She absolutely loved it.

It was very clean, we did clean it out every day though. We have wooden floors and we put it on a decent sized mat because our cat was a very enthusiastic slurper and there was a bit of splashing. It wasn't particularly noisy but it was in the utility room anyway. HTH

I got mine a ceramic fountain from Miaustore. It doesn't need a filter, you're supposed to scrub the pump about once a month. You can set the height of the jet; I have it low because the noise irritates DS. They use it more just for drinking, although Izzy will pat at it occasionally. They have and use a dish as well. It only goes on for a few hours a day to refresh the water anyway, and they seem to like it just as much (or as little) whether it's on or off.

I don’t see how the water can stay clean if you don’t have a filter!

Ours have the Catit Pixie , downstairs is plugged in , upstairs is the rechargeable version . They get cleaned every couple of weeks and topped up regularly . Our Siamese love them and use them all the time , we don’t have bowls anymore .

My late cars loved theirs. I changed it weekly and the filters monthly. The original one wore out. So got a catit pixie, that a PP has mentioned. I hated it. It's now warped so had to throw it away. New cars bit as keen so, debating on getting a new one.

I've had a few over the years, unfortunately dcat1 gets feline acne sometimes caused by the plastic fountains so I'll stop using them for a while and then start up again a while later, currently they just have bowls and large mugs dotted about the place which are much easier to clean. (Only ceramic/steel)

I've been thinking about this too, so thanks for the posts and recommendations!

Mine was scared of the noise and would not go near it so get a quiet one!
Breadcat will only drink out of straight sided pint glasses ( don't ask how we found out) and she has her own. It is good because we can see how much she drinks. She will not drink out of a bowl.
mad cat generally really.

Mind you fun when my BIL picked up and was about to drink from the cat's pint!

I have this fountain and it does have a filter on the pump, just not the type you have to replace monthly like most fountains. You just give the whole thing a good clean, I do every two weeks. It can go in the dishwasher too (obviously not the pump).

We have the catit one with the flower, DCat loves it. We change the filter every month and wash it every couple of weeks. Can be put in the dishwasher as well (not the pump). It makes a bit of a buzzing noise but it doesn’t bother DCat
