Test to be redone

Wanted any opinions on this please.

My cat had a follow up blood test on Fri eve, vet called today to say it has to be re done as there was a problem when it reached the lab.

When asked what problem he said sometimes it happens for different reasons, when probed he said it could have been due to the hot weather for example.

I know a student was watching and thought maybe she took blood and maybe didn't do it correct or maybe they didn't send it to the lab untill Monday

I know I will not know why but just thought hot weatherr affecting sample was a bit weird. Is this possible ?

They will not charge me again at least.

Blood samples clot, in humans and animals. It’s happened to me before, had 3 vials taken and one was clotted and had to be redone.

It can be improper storage or a collection issue but equally it just happens.

It has a proper name by the way, I’ve always referred to it as clotted but I think it’s haemolysed or something like that. It’s separated basically and can’t be used. I remember a phlebotomist explaining it anyway.

Shame have to do again as she gets very nervous traveling to and from vets but taking her back this Friday eve fingers crossed.

It's annoying but yes, all kinds of things can happen to blood samples - it's the same with humans!

@sunsetsandboardwalks
I never really thought about it really. Was thinking maybe I will ask if they keep samples till Monday, if so maybe I should reschedule to a week day just in case it was a storage issue, but I just want it done ASAP. to determine next step in meds etc.

In hot weather the samples can haemolyse on the way to the lab so that maybe the problem.
