How much does your vet charge for a consult?

My vet charges £51 for every consult. Medivet Group. I'm based in the Northwest.

It seems extortionate..!

Why do you think that is extortionate though OP? What do you think it should be?
My recent dental consultation was double that at £100 (broken tooth the NHS won't fix). The actual fracture repair will be £800! For a single tooth. My cat had dental surgery including x-rays and extractions plus of course anaesthetic for £500. Seems reasonable considering the costs of private medical care.

Think it's around £50. It went up from £35! Southwest England.

My cat's on a Medivet plan. £12.50 a month which covers flea drops, wormers, annual vaccinations, 2 check ups a year and discounts for other treatments if required. We've seen the vet twice for weight/diet consultations and not been charged extra. The flea drops alone would cost more than our monthly fees.

About £50. I don't think it's extortionate.

Why do you consider it extortionate? Do you have. Any idea of the costs involved in running a veterinary surgery ?

There are ongoing investigations into the cost of vet treatment for a good reason.

I'm not saying it's not expensive to run a vet practise, but why can our very successful, independent, local vet charge £18 per appointment when other practises are saying they need to charge £70?

We don't have OOH charges either - it costs the same regardless.

The vet we were using charged £75. Our dog had to be pts a couple of weeks ago and they charged £800 because it was out of hours. The emergency vet refused to come to our house. Absolutely disgusted with them.

We chose a new vet to take our other dog to last week and they did not charge a consultation fee!
