Cat vs Fox...

We have foxes that usually roam around the gardens at night (when my cat is safely indoors) but today one of them chose to visit at lunchtime.

The cat chased the fox when she saw it and fox just jumped back on the fence watching me and the cat with little sense of urgency to disappear.

It finally left when I got closer to the fence...

I wonder if it is usual for cats to chase foxes?

My girl seemed curious rather than angry and there was no physical contact/fighting but I really don't want my cat to get into the habit of going after foxes.

No getting rid of the foxes either some of my neighbours feed them and we have quite a few resident foxes and cubs.

Anyone else dealing with this? any advice?

I've often wondered about this, but have never heard any stories of foxes harming cats. And with that kind of attitude (catitude?!) from your cat you can see why.

My cats will vociferously defend the honour of the house against all comers- feline or canine- so I can only suppose they'd be the same with a vulpine!

Cats are not the natural prey of foxes, and so cats and foxes will usually ignore or avoid each other if they meet outdoors, or the cat will chase the fox away from their territory or food.

My friend used to have a fox family that would come and eat dinner outside with their 9 cats 😂

My cat Smoky RIP used to fight foxes on his territory, I'd come out in the morning to find cat fur and fox fur everywhere and a proud looking cat.

I've twice seen my cat hiding under a car while a fox nosed around with what I interpreted as hostile intent. Perhaps the fox was just trying to be friendly but the cat was being shy?

Came back home this evening to find a giant fox poo in the back garden.

Seems like the fox came back to show its displeasure from being chased by both cat and human!

My cat is quite bold (Tortitude) so I guess she just had to have a go at the fox...

We've had cats that would chase foxes, and one that used to play with them. Rural foxes especially are unlikely to be a threat to cats, they know cats have razor blades in their paws!

My neighbour feeds our local fox family (rural-ish) and one of my cats brazenly wanders into their den to help herself to whatever’s on offer 😳 she’s about 14, has no fear at all, and they just let her leave with whatever she fancies!
