Cat being sick once every day

My female 4 year old cat has started being sick - once every day. Should I go to the vet?

There's a bit of hair in there but it's mainly a thick sandy-textured yellowy type sick.

It's just odd how it's just once a day. About 4-5am so not after food. Seems totally normal otherwise.

Call the vet. It could be a hairball but better safe than sorry.

Is she long haired and does she get groomed regularly?

Might be a furball. I use the paste that goes on the paws so they lick it off. It usually sorts it out. I wouldn't rush to the vet if they're otherwise happy.

BestBiscuits · 19/07/2024 08:42

Ooh, what is the paste?

She's shorthair but brushed every day as she does shed more than our other shorthairs.

Just googled and found the paste - I'll get some - thanks!

Call the vet.

It might be a furball but it might also be excessive stomach acid/bile. Ours had it at one point and it settled when we gave her biscuits to nibble on overnight. She just needed something in an empty tummy. Might be worth trying while you wait for an appointment.

I think I would get her checked out if I were you.

Could be something, could be nothing, but just say that for example it was something going wrong with her kidneys, it would be good to get it caught early.

Can you get a urine sample from her? You'll need a special type of non-absorbant pellets for that, I'll show you what I mean if you haven't used them before.

For context, I had a very sicky cat, actually she was handed in to my vet to be PTS because her owners couldn't cope 😞. We had urine tests, blood tests done and there was absolutely nothing wrong with her, she was still sick every day for the remaining 6 years that we had her!

(I took so long to type that that I see others here given good advice about trying the hairball paste first. Ours was definitely not that, so I didn't think to suggest that first, sorry.)

BestBiscuits · 19/07/2024 08:59

Thanks @CarrieMoonbeams I've used those pellets before - one of the other cars has frequent urinary problems so I'm often taking a new sample to the vet. It's the vomiting that feels new and odd. Same time every day. I'll make an appointment and see what they say.

@BestBiscuits Ah that's good (well, not about your other cat's urinary problems, but you know what I mean!)

Hope you get her sorted. If it's not one thing it's another isn't it?! 🙄

We had this, and went to the vet several times - no concerns as she was otherwise happy, healthy, and eating like a horse. I eventually pushed for further tests and it did turn out to be something more than “just hairballs” so I would definitely make an appointment and not be palmed off.

Pancreatitis can cause vomiting

Gingerkittykat · 20/07/2024 00:52

Is it possible he is overly hungry at 5am? One of my cats always vomits when his stomach is empty.

GodspeedJune · 20/07/2024 00:55

My cat was doing this, it is either IBD or lymphoma in her case, we’re just awaiting biopsy results for a definitive answer. Your cat has age on her side but I’d definitely seek help.
