New cat?

One of our cats died about six weeks ago at the age of 15, we have his brother still, who seems to be very healthy. We’ve all been taken aback by just how much we miss him and we’d really love a new cat.

Those of you who have introduced a new cat to your old one - is a pair of kittens or a single adult cat likely to more successful? Is it just the luck of the draw? We know not to get just a single kitten. Either way they would be rescues. Or should we just not get another at all?

My neighbours got a pair of kittens after their older cat died as they thought the remaining cat looked lonely
Remaining cat is a calico with a face of "I was fine by myself thanks" and was not impressed by the arrival of 2 idiotic kittens
They are fine now but it took a good couple of months for them to settle!
