I rescued a cat today

Just that really.

Have seen him plastered all over social media for weeks as a cat loitering in the vicinity of a local supermarket and the surrounding area.

Lots of people saying they've been feeding him, someone took him to a local to scan for a microchip (no chip) but then released him.

Lots of people saying they'd take him but can't because they have other pets etc

Someone posted his former owners moved and left him as confirmed by their former NDN.

Anyway I spotted him today and decided to do something about the fact this boy was living on the streets;I called my DD who arrived with our cat carrier and I've brought him home.

My DD volunteers at an rescue centre and we've put him on their waiting list for a place but they like most others are under pressure so it'll be a few weeks before a spot opens for him so he'll be staying with us until then.

He's a beautiful tuxedo boy but a real chunk;I don't think he's very old either,I'd say about 18 months to 2 years.

Anyway it's nearly 3am and he's causing carnage in my bedroom,he wants out so is scratching at my window;I doubt he'll like being confined indoors but he'll have to get use to it.

Try reading the bit in the OP where she says he is on the list for a space at their local rescue.

Just about all rescue centres (including the big ones like RSPCA, Cats Protection etc) are bursting at the seams and literally can't take a single cat more. An otherwise healthy but homeless cat wouldn't be a priority.

Congratulations on your new Cat OP, you’ve done a good thing 😻

What a lovely boy - not just wearing a Tux, but spats too 😆

Hard to tell from those pics, but in the first one he looks a bit on the skinny side.

marigoldandrose · 11/07/2024 08:07

Thank you for rescuing him, he's beautiful

heldinadream · 11/07/2024 08:12

He's got his feet under your table now, OP, and no plans to leave.
Bless him. 😂

Igmum · 11/07/2024 08:19

He’s adorable. How could people move house and just leave him.

Overtheatlantic · 11/07/2024 10:49

He's currently tired from his very early morning exploits of running around my bedroom and is napping under my stairs.

He is lovely but I reckon once he's comfortable we'll see his mischievous side.

Unfortunately we can't keep him;we are a very ordinary working class family on a painfully tight budget at the moment with the current climate;we can just about afford to absorb the additional cost of some extra cat food and a flea/wormer treatment but we can't afford the long term costs of another pet.

He needs microchipping, his vaccinations redoing as I doubt he's had a booster and he'll need pet insurance for any big vet bills.

We have 2 cats and 2 dogs already. We have fostered for animal charities before and if we adopted every foster we wouldn't have room for more animals in need of a foster home like this little tuxedo boy.

You're not ordinary at all, you are an exceptionally kind and generous family 🙂

To know there is a good meal, a warm bed and a loving, kind family around him is changing that little guys world.

I'm sure that when he goes to his forever family he won't forget the family who saved him.

Duckingella · 21/07/2024 13:05

Update

We're keeping him;the kids have been on a campaign to keep him so we are and he's off the waiting list for a place at the animal sanctuary as we've told them we're keeping him.

If I have to do abit of overtime at work to afford the additional cost then so be it;he's worth it.

Destiny op...

Pudmyboy · 21/07/2024 22:50

Oh such good news for your new furry overlord!
Has he got a name yet?
Here's hoping for a promotion and generous pay rise as the Universe owes you one for your kindness to this kitty!

Igmum · 22/07/2024 19:06

Awww 🥰 thank you on behalf of all Tuxies everywhere ❤️

learieonthewildmoor · 23/07/2024 00:36

My tuxie boy who we rescued in the same circumstances would give you a high five but he’s not very co -ordinated and would just be confused.
He’s sitting on the iPad because he likes a warm bum.
