Cat in heat

We have been waiting a while for dcat2 to reach the 2kg our vet requires so that she can be spayed. We are almost there and it’s been agreed that they will go ahead on Friday. Tonight I think she coming into heat. Will this be a problem? I stressed enough as it is as dcat1 had a difficult recovery from her spay.

Many vets won't spay while a cat is in heat, but there's also no need to wait until they weigh 2kg either.

Animals under 2kg have a much higher anaesthetic risk which is why most vets prefer them to be over 2kg but it's not wholly necessary and the risk is still relatively low.
Cats are often in heat when spayed as they can continually cycle in spring/summer. It does make the surgery a little more risky. I would ask to rebook for next week and make sure she can't get out meanwhile.

Thank you. Dcat2 is spayed and safely home. I am so relieved.
